Holmes>Usyk>Dempsey I am going to say however that film of Dempsey isn't conclusive and he may well be the fastest of the lot. It's just too hard to judge so i have little confidence in my rating of him.
Mel has bracketed a tough group tbf. Holmes had fast hands but he utilised mostly single punches and one twos. Usyk throws more combos. I think in what he did throw Holmes is faster. They were all quick in both facets tho,
Dempsey is a hard one to rate due to the limitations of the footage we have. I will say that the initial knockdown of Willard was damn explosive and fast, archaic footage or not. Ditto the Carpentier KO. I’d love to be able to see the Fulton, Flynn or Gunboat Smith KO’s to get a clearer picture.
It depends. Usyk probably has the greatest speed with those light cuffing shots he throws, but there's no mustard on them. They are kind of pitty pat shots to test the other guy, distract him and set him up. Holmes is the next fastest, and his long stinging jab could not have been fun to eat. Dempsey is the slowest out of the lot, but on the other hand his punches came with a lot of steam behind them. They are trying to do different things.
Absolutely Griffo. It's virtually impossible to tell with Jack. He was supposed to be fast tho. Seeing is everything tho.
Didn’t Ray Arcel compare Duran and Dempsey? I reckon Dempsey had some sneaky speed from his younger years that we can’t see on film
It’s hard to find speed corrected tape but it’s out there somewhere, this is probably the closest; This content is protected This is somewhat close as well but doesn’t seem as close to accurate speed as the first: This content is protected
