Always pleased to see a Brit not scared to go in as underdog.

There was a decent chat on TalkSport the other week with Allen and Paul Smith going back and forth. Smith was rightly saying Allen should have better ambitions even if they're limited to British level - he'd still be ahead of 95% of fighters winning his country title. Given they'd been listening to Allen slaughtering Benn for not chasing any title in his whole career, it kind of hit home.

...and then he announces this, but I guess he'd have known it at the time.

Problem with Dave is he can talk absolute sense about everyone else. He’s got the knowledge and the experience, and when he’s analysing other fighters he’s usually spot on. But with his own career it’s pure “do as I say, not as I do”, and I think he genuinely believes people are looking out for him now.

They’re not, or this fight never gets made. Ironically he could probably sell out the same venue against someone he’s got a reasonable chance of beating, build towards a British-level target, and not take lasting damage in the process. Instead he’s trying to bridge a gap that’s way too wide at this stage. Hrgovic is no Lenroy Thomas.

Feels like he’s being softened up for the Bosh Jnr trilogy and maybe Johnny does better, but Dave’s swinging for the moon because he knows deep down he squandered a load of chances when he stagnated earlier in his career.

Mate, if you love watching underdogs get battered for the “brave” narrative, get yourself a season ticket at West Ham or Tottenham – you’ll feel like one of Bricktop’s pigs, right at home.

Hrgovic has one of the best chins in the division and hits hard. There is zero chance Dave wins this. He won’t win a single round and will be pummelled. I think this could be an uncomfortable watch and Dave’s corner will have to pull him out.

Dave Allen pursuing the British title would have been a perfect headliner for Channel 5, or ITV for that matter. He's a good talker, likeable and matched at the right level a capable fighter, just ask Nick Webb. He's also never going to trouble world level, so may be a longer term deal with a broadcaster targeting regional. English and British titles could have been best all round?

Loads of tickets unsold for Chisora/Wilder this weekend.

Not a fight I have any interest in

Pretty standard though, these days. The boom period is well and truly over, and outside of AJ and Fury just about hanging on, there aren’t really any massive draws in British boxing anymore. And pretty much every major televised show is giving away free tickets in the lead-up to it now (although I haven’t seen any for this yet).

There’ll be the odd anomaly that catches the public’s interest - like Eubank Jr v Benn, but without the Sky hype, your ‘novelty’ PPVs just don’t get that crossover interest that sells tickets and pulls in viewers anymore.

But this is Del boys last fight! I'm sure he said as much at the last dance, maybe the last dance pt 2 I do get those confused.

I'll check my Guide to Delboys last ever fight series and get back to you.

There are so many casual mugs in this game it's unreal. This weekend is one I've drawn the line on paying for. The highlights will be out soon after anyway (legally) so the wireless will do!

Credit to Chisora (and maybe Haye guiding him) for pivoting to be a good guy and mugging the punters for his last 3/4 years.

Frustrated at that one, do we know how bad the injury is? Would love it to be rescheduled as I felt it was a good fight on paper

Smith should retire. The desire’s gone. He’s had 11 fights in 10 years. 4 in the last 5. Pathetic really.

He is on the verge of another world title
    Why retire at that point?

    A shame for Smith

An even bigger shame for any paying fans, the show is now being headlined by Whittaker vs someone who has lost 4 of his last 8 fights! What a waste of time
