Doesn't Parker refute the notion that power is in technique?

Joseph Parker has very good technique, decent speed, but very moderate power . So I think it comes down to a question of strength.

or why would you say he's not a bigger puncher?

It's a lot of factors. Fast-twitch, mass, delivery, generation and compounding of power itself, timing, precision, bones (so called heavy hands) etc.

There is an X factor when it comes to power. Otherwise smaller heavies like Wilder wouldn’t hit harder than much larger heavies.

of course we will get the claim that he was fast handed, which is true. Tua did not have fast hands and was around 225 lbs peak and yet he clearly hit harder than dudes 20-30 lbs heavier than him.

so power is not as simple as speed x mass

    You're born with it.

You can train to maximise your natural power. But you can't turn feather dusters into sledge hammers.

There are so many factors involved I don't think there's a simple answer, but it is a good question.

Generally speaking, I think you have to sacrifice power if you're moving around and trying to use speed without planting your feet. Doesn't help if your opponent is constantly moving as well. Of course, some people are naturally stronger than others, so that's a big factor to consider as well.

But I think Parker sits down on his punches many times and they dont seem to do much. He could punch Zhang all day and it wouldn't affect him. I

Zhang has a granite chin tbf (his only stoppage was via bodyshots from Kabayel) and Parker scored a beautiful KO against Bakole not long after that.

Come on man, you can't seriously be putting that much weight behind the KO of that version of Bakole? He didn't even train for that fight and took it on less than 3 days notice.

You can't train your chin so that excuse won't fly.

An individual generates his individual maximum power through good technique

An individuals maximum power is what they are born with. Not weights, or anything else.

True, but an out of shape fighter gets caught cleaner, can’t absorb the shots as well and can’t recover as well.

When i watched parker vs wardley i saw some god awful punching technique in there for one of the worlds best heavyweights. Even worse in the slow motions. The joints weren't even half aligned with the trajectory of the punch.

I don't think that is what he built his style around all these years.

It's like fury, the only time I saw him throw proper straight punches was I think in wilder 2 and/or 3. Kronk actually seemed to have made a difference there. body behind the shoulder behind the arm behind the fist. Beautiful punches. Most of the time fury is a lot of hit and run. Which I think is great, but basically he starts the punching Motion from the body but doesn't really care about how it lands because he is concerned with what happens next already. He moves on from the punch before it lands and it helps him evade way more punches than when he commits.

Recently saw it in hutchinson against taylor again. Most of the time he simply doesn't care about hurting his opponent 80% when 40% with consistency is enough and it allows him not to have to commit in a way that he stays free to evade however he likes and keep his rhythm and timing with it.

It's an art form to be able to punch with high power and no tells. Parker hasn't built his style around that.

Itauma on the other hand, my god what a beautiful technique. To me the most aesthetically pleasing style in heavy. Not talking about his level. But these easy probing punches and then hard hooks from outside the field of vision and with little body movement to indicate them.

For someone who Started pro boxing so young he has a beautiful amateur style. Plus super aggressive. Like a heavyweight lomachenko.

Fair, but compare that to someone like Joyce who just ate clean shots without moving.

Its kinda crazy how much Deontay would be outweighed in his fights, legit 30 to 40 pounds at times.
