Could Ray Mercer beat the versions of Fury and Joshua that Usyk beat ?

A prime, well trained, motivated Ray Mercer , the version that fought - and I think, beat - Lennox Lewis, most certainly could.

The issue is that version didn't always show up

Doubtful. Mercer didn’t have the mobility or skill needed to outbox those guys. He might have a punchers chance against Joshua but that’s it

Joshua is breakable. His will breaks, his spirit. Wlad had him an inch away. Ruiz pushed him over the line. I think that a motivated, trained Mercer was made of tougher stuff than Joshua. He could, and I think, would pull the trick.

He could stop paper-tiger Joshua. Counter punch his aZz.

Fury would depend on if Mercer could catch up to him. Fury would be back-pedaling and circling away a lot. His fists aren't stopping Mercer.

    Fury outboxes him.

Mercer too rugged and too much heart for Joshua. After taking punishment in early rounds Ray comes back and surprises A J with the ferocity he has left and stops him around 9 th round.

The thing is that Fury and Joshua's talent-level should beat Mercer but Mercer's attributes-level can ensure that if they don't have full command of their talents on a day he does, they will be unmanned. Confucius, aka Kong Qiu, aka Velvet Jones, once said "I am not a bum. I'm a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends and... uh... my thermos."
Well, Joshua and Fury, just like Raymond Mercer, could all find themselves without their thermos. On the night, that is to say. All due respect.

    No in a word.

The best version of Mercer is a head to head marvel, but he was not consistent.

He might get a win in there, but he would be on the losing end of the series.

Well for me I reckon Mercer can do this, he only lost to Ferguson in his prime and later avenged that loss. And as stated should have beaten Lewis while over the hill.
If he can do this he can beat past prime Fury and AJ.

No he has a chance to take one of two off Joshua but I’m not certain he could do it and he gets swept by Fury. Too many angels, height, reach and skills for Mercer.
Mercer maybe beat Lewis but overall he was inconsistent losing to Ancient Holmes, Ferguson and Marion Wilson in most eyes. Hypothetically he could break Joshua but I wouldn’t bet on it.

What was your scorecard? I only had 3 rounds for Mercer.

    Definitely not no.

Mercer got schooled by an old Holmes.

And Damiani who's basically a poor man's Fury without the size. Won every single minute of every round against Mercer until a freak uppercut caught the tip of Damiani's nose.

Fury would win a wide UD over Mercer that's a given IMO.

If Joshua fights smart aswell he should outpoint Mercer. But if he starts getting into exchanges like he did vs Ruiz the 1st time then its very possible Mercer could stop him.

How do you defy what Mercer's prime is exactly ? He didn't really have many notable wins and he was up and down in his career.

As for Jesse Ferguson you say he revenged that loss but it was hardly an impressive showing. Mercer barely won a split decision against a fighter considered a journeyman at that time.

He then followed that up with a draw against another journeyman Marion Wilson who was even further down the pecking order.

So if you're considering that to be Mercer's prime you're not really helping your case in regards to Mercer in these mythical H2H match ups.
