What was thinking Thurman ?

Same thing that a lot of older former champ goes through, thinking they have one last great fight in em.

 

I mean, he was thinking he could win the fight like he does all his fights..... Not sure what answer you are expecting....lol.

Keith Thurman has always been a competitor. Boxing all his life. This is what he knows and didn't think he had lost a step in anyway. He probably did see the openings he claimed to see via film before the fight, but having the ability to expose the flaws in the moment is different.

I honestly think the ref stopped the fight pre-mature as Thurman's face was battered, but he wasn't hurt or in trouble. On the other hand, Thurman wasn't doing much up to that point to prevent himself from getting his face tatooed repeatedly. Yea, it looks bad, but I don't necessarily feel he is done just yet. He probably won't ever be elite again, especially at 154lbs, but he could very much be a gatekeeper, even though he hates the label for himself.

Fundora was a horrible match up for him. The fight that should have happened was him vs Spence Jr....2 former champs that pretty much disappeared from the elite ranks after losses trying to get back in the relevancy category.

 

i dont know, he was circling into the big left hand and just doin everything wrong, standing right in front of a tall guy and at the end of his punches where theyre the strongest.

 

He's had an odd career. Not totally in love with boxing. He's better than his record shows, but only in flashes.

Very likable fighter but I think getting that early PBC money and relaxing a bit cost him any legacy.

 

Why did he have so long out ? His injuries can’t be that bad to come back at 37 albeit taking a spanking?

The mistake Thurman made was he was fighting in the wrong weight class and should have been fighting in 130 Lightweight for the same height and reach advantage like Fundora

 

I think that focusing on Keith just sidesteps the fact that Sebastian Fundora is maturing into quite a complete package who will be a tough night for anyone.

 

He got his ass kicked, but against a freak of nature like Fundora, how could have he won? He tried to win, which is something praise worthy.

I didn't expect anything different. Thurman is 37, past his prime and has fought very little in recent years. Fundora is 28, in his prime, faster than Thurman, 197 cm tall and has a huge reach advantage, which he knows how to exploit very well. It simply happened as expected in my opinion. I hope Thurman retires now.
