Who is a greater P4P fighter Jimmy Wilde or Floyd Mayweather?

Of course.

Wilde was held to be the first flyweight champion. Before this it's a mess of paperweights, atomweights, stop/starts and paper claims. American interest was almost nil until Wilde arrived and he famously spent most of his time fighting at any weight other than flyweight. The first international flyweight title fight wasn't even had until 1916. By this point, there had bene a heavyweight champion for thirty years. Promoters showed absolutely no interest of any sort until Wilde.

Basically it was a British title until 1916; thereafter it was abandoned after a about a year most of the time by champions who then died penniless until it was abandoned almost entirely in the forties.

Maybe the guys boxing at the weight in the teens were all geniuses, but they didn't box each other outside their local circuits and there's no footage of them to prove it because almost no flyweight fights were filmed. About as under developed as it was possible for a weight division to be, really.

 

It's a bold claim, it might be true; either way, the division got an awful lot better once there had been some established champions, and a decade of international competition, same as all the other divisions.

But Wilde was retired by then, if he fought in that era he was 0-1.
