I just found out that I had a professional boxer in my family by the name of William "Curley" Denton. I think his record was 55-51-13. Nothing great but is interesting. Fought out of Cincinnati, OH. I can't seem to find pictures or a whole lot about him online. I know he fought from 1934-1949 in the welterweight division. If anyone can find pictures, articles, or facts that would be awesome. HAHAHAHAHAHA One could only hope so. I wish I knew more info on him. I just met that side my family last year. So, I don't know hardly anything about him. His son (my much older 1st cousin), just passed away at the end of May.
To learn more about him, you’re going to have to find some sort of historian who really knows the Midwest circuit in those days, especially in and around Ohio. From the looks of his record, he’s what I’d call an honest prizefighter — win a couple, lose a couple, but to find regular work like that in a relatively limited geographic area he must have always come to fight and give it his best. More than 100 fights with only 3 KO losses says he had a good chin, but only 3 KO wins says he wasn’t a puncher. Looks like like he was mostly an undercard guy with a few 10-rounders sprinkled in. But against the best opposition he faced, he lost. So he had a ceiling. In short, absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in being a .500 fighter who stayed active as long as he did. I’m betting he was a pretty tough hombre.

I appreciate the response, facts, and advise. Maybe the next time I visit family in Cincinnati, I'll try to hit a local library or something. I'm sure my dad has old newspaper clippings or something of his "Uncle Curley". Once again, thank you for your time!
