He only fought bums with the occasional middling thrown in. I mean, the bar for the hall of fame is not high, so why not?

 

Chisora already had 13 losses, though. It there a lower bar for Americans?

 

Wilder will be remembered as that guy that people beat to become great if you get what I mean.

Like how GGG helped Canelos legacy, or how Floyd beat Corrales.

 

Wilder will get into the HOF because of DEI. He does not deserve to get into HOF though

I mean calling Luis Ortiz (x2) a bum or middling sounds very disrespectful. Ortiz was very good. Also the Stiverne of the first fight was a respectable good win.

But apart from those yeah it was largely sub standard, cherry picked poor opposition.

 

I personally don’t think he deserves to be in there but based on the criteria he will definitely get in there, based on the fury trilogy alone.
But it’s almost impossible for the guy not to get in after being (wrongly) voted the hardest puncher in heavyweight history.

 

Ortiz' best wins going into Wilder were Thompson and Jennings, and one of them, I believe Thompson, was marred by a PEDs bust.

This is how far the once world dominant US boxing scene has fallen.

 

Wilder has not been a borderline HOFer since 2016(10 years ago) at the latest. He is nowhere near the borderline. Every world champion at an original weight division who defended their title a few times is a lock and it is delusional to think otherwise.

The voters were never going to leave Wilder out of the HOF with 10 defenses because "he beat no one ". That was never going to happen. If Luis Ortiz had beaten him Wilder would still make the IBHOF.

Luis Ortiz is a borderline HOFer and he would have made the hall of fame if his interim title hadn't been stripped and had a few official defenses. They aren't going to heavily audit the belts of a long reigning champion. Thats not what they do.

I would guess as an American HW based in the USA, that he would get in

I have wondered if Wilder would have won a British title if he had have been based in the UK.
That isn't a slur, it's that he would have likely have had some tough fights to get there and potentially could have faced - Fury, Whyte, Joshua, Chisora, Price very much earlier in his career and not had as long a development time

 

Dariusz Michalczewski 23 World title defences (2nd highest ever of any Boxer) and still hasn't been put in the hall of fame.

Sven Otttke, Chris John, Gianfranco Rosi, etc all made loads of defences and never got in

 

With DM theres the whole WBO thing which is different because its unclear when the WBO belt starts to "count" as a major title. DM's reign was smack in the middle of that change. DM is going to get in though he just hasn't yet.

John only retired in 2013. The rest are not in "original divisions".
