Would prime Chisora be Joshua's 3rd best win?

Povetkin was getting on in age but he was still good.

No. Chisora is a gate keeper. I have to put Povetkin in over him, Ruiz and possibly Whyte. Def Wlad and Parker. Around 5th for Chisora.

 

Why are people suddenly so high up on Chisora guy was seen as a bum that couldn't even get on TV in UK after his terrible showing in 2nd Fury fight had to go to Sauerland cos even warren gave up on him - hes takam level at best

 

Hes 8th give or take I see no path to put him higher then 6th.

"Prime" Chisora lost to Pulev when they were both in their physical primes. The fight was a split decision because of a rogue judge who gave Chisora 3 rounds more then judge 2 and 5 more rounds then judge 3. Chisora was not close to beating Pulev. Chisora was close to beating Whyte but he lost to Whyte twice. Whyte was a 2x interim world champion with 10 less losses. Don't know how you rank Whyte above either.

Povetkin won a world title 2 years after the AJ fight. Putting Chisora above him because he was 39 is stupid.

You can make cases for Wallin, Ngannou, Breazeale, rotund Ruiz and Charles Martin to be considered better wins then Chisora. For example Breazeale is Joshuas tallest win who hit the hardest. Ngannou beat Fury and Joshua beat Ngannou easily. Ngannou has no official wins but the Ngannou fight was the absolute peak of AJs reputation with the Fury and Wilder camps finally waving the white flag that AJ was better.

Chisoras clearly not in his "physical prime" but this was his "peak" just now. This was the highest hes ever been ranked. Chisora was a mandatory after his last win. He shouldn't have been a mandatory that was silly but he beat 3 serious opponents in a row. Before that streak he was winning about 20-30% of his world level fights. I think Washington, Joyce and Wallin would all have beaten prime Chisora.

Chisora losing to the best over and over made him better at boxing in his 40s then he was when he was in his "physical prime". When you drop a fighters level they do better because their opponent is easier then who they are used to fighting. Since Chisora kept failing upwards this raised the level of his rebound fights. In an era where fighters might never get a 2nd crack at an elite if they fail the 1st time this was crucial.

 

Someone should bump threads from 2023 complaining about Fury fighting Chisora for the 3rd time. The tone shift is just wow. Chisora went from a cherry picked opponent to a guy with a better "legacy" then a 10x defending champion.

 

This thread is just an attack on Anthony Joshua. The OP can't go more than a few hours without thinking about him.

Chisora does have some good wins mixed in with losing one sided beat downs. Will fight anyone and is usually in good fights, win or lose. I think people respect his career.

I think many would argue about primes.
I always felt Chisora was never the same after the second Fury loss.
If that was Chisoras prime around then, he lost to Haye.
If you said his prime was after the 2nd Fury loss (which i don't think it was), there was the loss to Pulev and Whyte

I would rate several of Joshua's wins higher. In no order
Pulev, Whyte, Klitschko, Povetkin, Parker, Ruiz
I'm not sure Chisora would have beaten C Martin

I think Derek has been brilliant on the tough British scene

 

On par with a Ruiz win, but lower than the Povetkin win.

 

Chisora wasn't the IBF mandatory. That is just old fish eyes' general policy on how to get what he wants "If I say it enough times..."
