It was a poor performance for sure - the biggest issue imo was stopping the action to warn Wilder whilst he was punching. I thought the first time was because he was hammer fisting, which is illegal but it wasn't clear. Definitley shouldn't be officiating high level fights.

It was an absolute disgrace. Possibly the worst I can remember.

It was a truly disgraceful display.

Funny thing is referees are supposed to be unbiased.

The ref was too small for a heavyweight fight between 2 shot giants with terrible technique and elite tier CTE.

I don't really blame Chisora's corner for running in at that moment because the ref lost control and chisora could have been seriously injured hanging over the ropes the way he was.

They investigated themselves and found they did nothing wrong.

    'Satisfied'

Hardly a complementary remark and rightly so. If Smith had thought the referee had done a good job he would have said so. That he didn't, tells you all you need to know.

Clearly, because, if Wilder knocked Chisora down there, there wasn't enough time left in the round for the referee to take a point away from Wilder to negate the knockdown.

I never saw a guy get hit really hard in the eye ... then the referee stops the guy throwing punches from following up ... so the guy who got punched could tell the referee that the punch really hurt. :duh

It's also been a while since I watched a fight where so many knockdowns or standing eights simply weren't called. The referee just gave Chisora time, or, on at least one occasion, actually helped Chisora off the floor and gave him time to clear his head.

That was a 12-round fight, I think eight of the rounds were controversial because the referee wouldn't call a knockdown a knockdown ... or he'd call it a knockdown and then moments later take a point away from Wilder ... or Wilder would hit Chisora and the referee would step between them and then tell Wilder to stop doing something ... apparently to stop punching Chisora, because Wilder was supposed to win.

From Chisora's cornerman running into the ring during the very first round ... to the eleventh round when the referee tried to take away Wilder's last knockdown of Chisora by, at first not calling it a knockdown, and then immediately ruling a slip by Wilder as a knockdown in Chisora's favor ... it just kept happening round after round.

Even the people here who despise Wilder were embarrassed about how obvious the fix going on in this one was, because as soon as they tried to brush off one obviously bad call in the round-by-round posts, the next round there would be another questionable call.

Wilder still beat the hell out of Chisora so badly that they couldn't take it away from him. Except for Phil Edwards, who stuck to the script and gave the fight to Chisora (who was down more times than Frazier against Foreman, and even called timeout once) by a wide margin.

It was the WORST FAILED FIX in memory.

If any fight called for both officials (the referee and Phil Edwards the judge) to get called in ... this was the one. But they quickly washed their hands of the whole debacle.

They had the referee in their pocket.
    One judge in their pocket.
They said Wilder couldn't take a punch, and when he took all the punches, they decided to call a slip a knockdown.
They said Wilder couldn't punch anymore, so when he dropped Chisora, and Derek pulled Wilder down with him, they just didn't count it.
When he knocked Chisora out of the ring, and then did it again, the ref counted the first and took a point away from Wilder for the other.
When he knocked Chisora out of the ring a third time, the ref didn't want to call it a knockdown, but the other official did, so he was late to go along.

I still can't believe Wilder just kept knocking Chisora down ... took all the bad calls in stride ... thanked the people ... and left with THE WIN (officially and in the court of public opinion).

    Hilarious. Wilder RULES! :headbash

Fans in the future are going to watch this and be confused by the whole thing. ;)

How does the British Boxing Board of Control watch that clip, which begins just after Chisora got punched out the ring less than 30 seconds before - and was in such bad shape that his own corner had to illegally help him back into the ring - how do they watch that clip and go, "Yep, point deduction, Wilder. SATISFIED."

That bloke in Chisora's corner who ran in the ring in the first round was a dead set moron the referee could've DQ'd Chisora right then and there but it was actually smart of the ref not to LOL imagine how the crowd would've reacted to that haha.

Wilder is the greatest American heavyweight since Evander Holyfield.
