Did it seem like Joshua doesn't want the Fury fight next?

I think Joshua will fight Fury but it has to be after a comeback fight of his own as well as clearly still dealing with the loss of his two best friends and certainly not after a fight with Fake Paul. Joshua and Hearn do not want to act or look like they jump to Turkis drum and I get were they are coming from. Joshua knows full well not to get into it with Fury talking smack to each other and playing Fury’s mind games. Hopefully the fight does happen but if it does it could well be in 2027.

 

That is a good point about refusing to engage with Fury may actually be a deliberate and intelligent chess move. Fury thrives off that nervous and chaotic energy and trying to get a one up. Usyk gave him nothing but occasional cheeky barbs and likely understood little anyway. He gave him a ten minute staredown which was even more epic than the Klitschko sauna battle at least.

 

Would anybody be surprised it’s still a big selling fight tbh .

 

It's really not, compared to Joshua vs Fury, Joshua vs Wilder is worth peanuts.

The myth of the manufactured champion Deontay Wilder may still exist in North America, but it has never existed in Europe....Over here Wilder, whilst known, is not considered a legitimate former HW champion.

Joshua vs Fury is two Brits, two former legitimate World Champions, who both beat Vladimir Klitschko, fighting for the 2nd spot of the best HW of their Era, after Usyk. The British public don't believe Wilder is a Top 10 HW of this Era, and they're (we're) correct.

To put it into perspective, Deontay Wilder just went 12 rounds with a guy that David Haye knocked out, in 5 rounds, nearly 15 years ago. The American HW scene has been dead for decades. Deontay Wilder has never been a legitimate World Champion.

 

Ok then.

If Joshua makes a fight with 41 year old Wilder next, is he ducking Fury?

 

I beg to differ outside of Joshua v Fury a Joshua v Wilder fight is the next biggest fight for him. Saying Wilder has never been a legitimate Champion is just silly talk .

 

I think there was a point in the interview you could tell he was about to trash Fury's performance. You could tell he caught himself, definitely a Dubois flashback after he trashed DD in the build up.

 

Even though it’s a fight that should have happened in 2020/2021, I still want it to happen. Although these two aren’t in the same class, it will bother me to my dying day that we didn’t get to see Riddick Bowe vs Lennox Lewis in 1993/1994.

Even though it was a farce, I’m still glad we saw Tyson vs Lewis in 2002. We get a decent idea of who would have won prime for prime.

 

So in summary, AJ doesn't want the fight next.

If he wants a tune up fine, but just go out and say it rather than look like a deer in the headlights. Something like "you had your tune up, once I've had mine I'll sign" would have been fine.

 

Tyson and Lewis have actual impressive legacies

With Fury and Joshua we don't even know how they rate in their own eras

 

Nah, a fight between two American and British KO artists with a long rivalry will always be a huge fight to make. Maybe not quite as big as AJ Fury, but that's only because Fury sells the fight.

 

How does that idea work out ? Tyson was Undisputed Heavyweight Champion in 1987 2 years before Lewis even turned pro in 1989 .

 

I think AJ wants a tune up before Fury but Turki wants it now

Aj needs a fight maybe two considering his personal life.

In hindsight was good idea to call him out for fight but to acknowledge the hitman but not ajs friends lacked a little class - hopefully slipped their minds
