Sugar Hill is an awful, one trick-pony trainer

After watching the fight back again and seeing the post-fight interviews it astounds me that Fury still trains with the guy. Fury is winning comfortably on points, shaking off the rust and all Sugar Hill can think of is "you gotta knock him out!"

Turning Fury into "Kronk" style hasn't really achieved anything other than regression. Who do you think would make a better trainer for Fury to bring out some of the old skill set?

Think it's more a case that Fury hasn't got the power or youth to pull off that proper stutter step anymore behind a big log jab or bodyshots that take the wind out of you. You shouldn't train Fury to fight like a puncher when he isn't. Good to make fury more offensive though, no reason why he should give opponents breathing room with his stamina.

He executed in the Wilder rematch 2020...but his elbows gave out afterwards and he's never been the same and now his legs are also on the way out.

Atleast he's got a decent uppercut now.

that flicking jab double and tripled from the outside is his main weapon really especially for big plodders, once his legs go and he can't pull that off it's curtains because bieng a 260 pound light hitting blubberball on the inside gets you battered by Wardley or Kabayel. Stick and move. Fury has adapted as much as he can but once his outside work fades which it's starting to then he has nothing left really. His heart and toughness will still be there like old Ali.

Do I think Sugar Hill is good for Fury right now? No not really because he'll have him in straight lines...Fury reverts to type anyway when it gets tough, back to an outside boxer flicking that jab like Larry Holmes.

The second Wilder fight was beautifull because he executed Sugar's teachings out of the gate really well and merged his own lifelong skills into it, a perfect concotion of brutality with his best physique.

Especially as his uppercut used to connect with his own face!

I've had it happen before... right in the mouth, exacly the same:clapclap:Don't think you can say you've boxed unless you've managed to punch yourself somehow.

Thinking about it. I’m shocked how bad Fury was against Ngannou compared with against Makhmudov.

It's almost as if, and most of this forum doesn't want to believe this, but, Fury trained for one fight, and didn't train for the other. Fury is much better when he trains.

He’s miles better than Johnathon Banks. Fury is feather fisted so the ‘Kronk Style’ isn’t going to do him any good.

Sugar has never been the right choice for Fury,Fury simply does not have the power to pull off the aggressive Kronk style, think Moorer Hearn Lee Maclennan Klitschko Lewis everyone of them a noted puncher. Dom Ingle would have been a far better choice to get the best from Fury using his natural attributes, ring iq,movement and elusive boxer style . I don’t think Ingle would put up with all the hangers on/excess baggage or John Fury either .

He's literally the biggest fraud trainer in boxing, living off the Kronk mythology.
He almost got Fury beat by the mma fighter which would have destroyed Fury's whole legacy and ruined the Usyk fight too. That's how close he came to wrecking Fury. 'Land da right hand and go home early', literally his pre-fight assessment.
Fury could actually choose basically any current trainer and do better.
Fury has had the worst trainers of any top fighter once he went pro.
Two misfits from his family then this abomination.

The Wilder II strategy was also insane and people only think it was good because Fury pulled it off with his talent. But he almost got decked in round 2 and without the early KD shot near the ear that fight would have looked like Wilder III. The first fight was a much cleaner performance and all he had to do was do the same but follow up a bit more after landing.

Hill is a rubbish trainer but Fury's tactics in the first fight carried their own risks because it gave Wilder 36 minutes to land his bombs, plus there was the risk of being denied on the cards. Hence Fury got a draw in fight 1.

It's also fair to speculate that 2018 Fury was already slowing down athletically relative to the pre-retirement 2015 version. 14+ months later and after the Wallin fight, he may have reasoned that he was going to be a little bit slower still, and Wilder now had 12 rounds experience trying to time him. So mixing things up radically would be smart to catch Wilder by surprise, which he did.

Fury took far less damage in their 2nd Wilder fight and won with relative ease, particularly from the 3rd round on. Plus the beatdown Fury gave Wilder in fight 2 damaged him physically and mentally, perhaps making it easier to win fight 3.

For Wilder 3, Fury was less prepared physically and mentally; clearly flabbier, and underestimating Wilder somewhat. But unlike fight 1, he did get the win.

Sugar is a likeable guy but not much of a trainer.

He was asked prior to the first Usyk fight if Usyk was the best fighter Fury has fought and whether Fury is doing any special prep. His response was that the Usyk fight was just like any other fight.

I mean come on, how delusional do you have to be. When you can't even acknowledge the guy your guy is about to face is way better than anything he has faced.

Fury's tactics in the first Usyk fight were awful. Using a long guard led to Usyk wearing him down with body punches. Keeping his hands low led to him being nailed with left hand after left hand.

I could have told Fury to keep his right hand high to block incoming lefts and keep his left closer to his body to prevent or block body shots. Sugar not sorting Fury's defense led to him almost getting ko'd in the first Usyk fight.

A coach who can't even teach his pupil basic defense vs a southpaw. Jesus.

I am not impressed with Sugar Hill. He stood in front of Fury sitting in the corner between rounds throwing air combinations of how he would do it if he were in the fight. It made me want to see him fight a round against Makhmudov.
