Tyson Fury re-enters The Ring's latest ratings at heavyweight

They are still one of the best ranking outlets out here, especially if you cross reference with other independent rankings.

 

Regarding rankings, I think they are all massively objective these days cause we are working with old outdated data due to lengths between fights and the small number of fights happening.

Rankings of old would have been way more accurate.

It's all guesswork these days. For all we know Usyk fell off months ago and could be beaten by a number of fighters.

I don't think that's the case, but given his age and style, it wouldn't be out of the question.

But, you get the point; someone could linger at a ranking they realistically shouldn't be at these days and thus keep fighters that should move up pushed down.

 

Fury looked shot to bits, he shouldn't be looking for any serious fights now just cash out with AJ. I wouldn't pick him to beat many in the top 10, Makmood is as bad and crude as it gets with ranked contenders and he couldn't put a dent in him.

 

I guess there is some small argument to be made about Fury being off sixteen months and that if he continues to train he could improve, but man that's a stretch. Especially with a guy like him who famously doesn't train like he should. If AJ decides to stick it to him and take a tune up first, Fury would be looking at another 6-7 months out of the ring.

I went and re-watched the rematch he had with Usyk. That was a fight where Fury was completely focused on safety first, conserving his energy so he could make it the full 12, and desperately trying to not get knocked silly like he did the 1st time around with Usyk. And he looked light years better than the version we saw on Saturday. Faster, sharper, more movement, the whole works. That version of Fury finishes Makhmudov inside 5-6 rounds.

I just don't understand how anyone watches that performance from Saturday and thinks Fury would be favored against anyone in the Top 10. Hell, Fury himself doesn't believe that because he's adamant about not fighting anyone but AJ.

 

I think he could beat the likes of Ajagba, Hrgović, Parker etc.

 

Really? I could maybe see Ajagbe because he's so lazy and uninspired when he fights. Think Hrgovic and Parker's work rate and physicality would be too much for him.

At any rate, it doesn't matter because we all know he's never stepping in the ring with anyone inside the Top 10. He's back on the same bull**** he's pulled for the majority of his career. The guy who had 24 domestic level fights before finally going after a title. The guy who swerved Price, Ustinov, a rematch with Wlad, who ducked AJ for a decade, who fought Delboy three times while trying to avoid Usyk. Look at how much the losses to Usyk have hurt him. His ego can't afford for him to lose to anyone else. Honestly, I'm surprised he's even willing to fight AJ. I suppose he finally thinks AJ is washed enough that he can fiddle his way to a decision.

Furys borderline top 10 at best. But the fact remains his only losses are to the Ring champ who he nearly beat. The Ring goes off circular logic and based on that they could put Fury at number 1. They aren't going to rank Fury 8th because they think he is unlikely to beat 7 of their ranked fighters he hasn't fought. They don't do that. There needs to be "he lost to this guy whose ranked here". And Furys just got Usyk so number 3 he is.

These are not the year end rankings so these aren't the ones that "count" per say.

 

TBRB have also put Fury as their #4 contender today.

 

I think there is more chance we get Usyk Fury 3 than AJ Fury

 

I think it was the correct move by them, putting Fury below Dubois as well as Kabayel and Wardley. #3 isn't justified

 

Dubios is coming off of a second KO loss to Usyk and isn't currently a title holder. I think putting Fury at 3 makes sense for now, as Wardley is a belt holder coming off a solid win over Parker and Kabayel is hypothetically Usyks next mandatory opponent.

 

Fury came to get the rounds in which he did, and proceeded to win 11 out of 12 rounds after a 16 month lay off with two back to back losses to the best in the current era.

It's a tune up. It's what they're there for.

 

That’s all true, but doesn’t change that he’s finished. Lost speed, hardly any foot feints anymore, legs slowing down so he’s having to work more on the inside… he’s not very good at this and against someone not completely Neanderthal like, he will get chinned.

 

Yeah he's past his prime, but I think "finished" is a bit too early of a call. He still beats fighters like Dubios, AJ, Wardley but will have a hard time against faster and fresher fighters like Usyk and Itauma (not including Kabayel or Parker because they'll never fight each other)
