Where do you currently find excitement in boxing?

Boxing isn’t about just the guy(s) you are following. If that is the case you were never a boxing fan. You were a fan of the boxer.

There have been so many great fights on Probox Tv. Even some of the fights Zuffa put up have been good. So if you like boxing there are and will still be plenty of good boxing matches.

 

Are you suggesting miniq is a fan of a particular boxer? I'll hear none of it!

 

Light heavyweight seems to have the best fights. Fighters from Eastern Europe and Central Asia are often the best to watch: Beterbiev, Dzambekov, Bivol, etc.

Too many heavyweights are overweight (Franklin, "Belly" Fury, Zhang) and their fights are sloppy affairs (Wilder-Chisora, Fury-Makhmudov). Most of them don't fight often enough to create sustained interest and excitement.

There are too many mismatches in boxing, especially on Queensberry and Top Rank cards, and this lowers interest.

Bivol v Eiffert I will be watching to see how Bivol looks after his back surgery, he may not be the same or may be improved depending on the veracity of the reason for the surgery and it's efficacy.

 

The Best divisions - the ones with integrity - are all below Welter. That's a problem for casual fandom and getting new eyes on the sport.

Inoue-Nakatani should be explosive. Same with Dubois-Wardley. After that? Hmm...it's not very dynamic out there...

Feels like a number of key divisions are simply not moving.

 

There used to be mouth-watering fights. Nothing like that anymore

 

Boxing right now doesn’t have that one man who has star power, last one is Mike Tyson and that was 30 years ago.

 

For me nothing beats a good Aussie domestic card no matter who is fighting it always brings excitement for me.

 

In boxing, as with all sports, excitement comes from two areas. The anticipation for a particular matchup or the fight, while it is taking place. The best experiences are when the excitement during the fight matches or surpasses the excitement and anticipation leading up to the fight.

Of course, I am not excited about all the fights I am interested in but if I am excited the reasons are noted above.

 

Money May had it. He generated that much cash through Vegas it wsnt funny. Same with a prime Pac man and De La Hoya, Roy Jones etc.

I agree. I wasn’t always a big Mayeeather fan but I loved the atmosphere around his fights. I really enjoyed watching the 24/7 show on HBO in the lead ups to his fights, and I, of course, always marveled at his skills in the ring. The main negative I had toward Floyd was the constant bragging about money and avoiding certain opponents in their prime. With that being said, I still have tons of respect for how great of a boxer he is.

 

I think a lot can depend on how old you are. I've been a hardcore fan since I was probably 9 years old and often fights to watch were hard to come by. So I literally would watch anything and everything when I got the chance. Fights sent from all over the globe. Nowadays everything is available online and the odds are minut that I am going to see anything that I haven't seen before. The only real interest for me now are to watch Usyk wrap up his career, also Beterbiev. I admire Tim Tzsyu's passion to keep going after a couple of bad losses ( not many aussie fighters have come back from bad beatings ). So I'm still invested in watching him. Joshua fighting Wilder and Fury holds interest. Boots Ennis and maybe a couple of EE fighters like Surov and Khyzniak.
