Usyk so far in his career has fought nobody like Foreman,so to base a statement as to how Usyk beats Foreman is just,like I said your own personal opinion .

 

I don't agree.

Ali In the 70s had better durability than Fury.

Ali way past his prime was eating flush right hands from Shavers for breakfast without being off his feet.

Ali in over 60+ fights whilst fighting 30+ top 10 ranked Heavyweights was only on the floor 4 times.

Fury in comparison has had 38 fights and has only fought 4 opponents ranked in the top 10 yet he's been floored 8 times.

So I would confidently say Ali had a better chin than Fury.

Although Fury has good recuperative powers.

 

And the only guy close to Usyk that Foreman fought embarrassed him. He also lost to Jimmy Young. So stylistically, Usyk would be a nightmare for George.

And we all know the story and the circumstances behind that fight,should it have even took place ? Ive already mentioned the loss to Young iirc . Usyk is the best of this era without doubt but is he really that close to Ali ,again that comes down to personal opinion .

 

Usyk could beat Ali but we will never know. Circumstances behind both Foreman losses in the 70's are the same - got outsmarted and ran out of gas.

 

Usyk's got a better guard and defence. Ali fought mostly with his hands down and relied on his own reflexes.

Even Mike Tyson, who adores Ali, said Ali's defence was poor.

 

Extra Circumstances
The fight delayed for 5 weeks when Foreman suffered a cut in September 1974. This cut 8 days before the fight reqd 11 stitches,and Foreman was refused permission to go back to America or Paris,France to get medical attention.The organisers feared that if Foreman left Zaire to seek treatment the fight would be cancelled,reports stated that Foreman even had his passport confiscated,steps were taken to ensure he did not leave.Both Forman and Ali ended up under basically house arrest and both remained in the Country along with the foreign press until the fight happened. Hardly surprising with two Dictators involved and heavily invested in the fight Gadaffi and Seko. Ali’s friend and business manager Gene Kilroy suggested to Zaire officials to take there passports to keep both fighters there.

Do you think guys like bermane stiverne or Charles Martin are likely to catch a title in the 70s? Plenty of ATGs fought guys like him, yes. But he’s considered a top 15-10 guy in this era. How many top 10 heavyweights would worse against a heavyweight champion than a mma fighter with zero boxing matches?

it wasn’t much more than a few years ago that some posters were favouring Joe Joyce and Zhang over George Foreman. Recency bias is more common in these forums.

Yes, a dude who destroyed an ATG heavyweight in two rounds and won a title at 45 after coming back from a 10 year retirement.

I imagine that would happen to nearly everyone against Ali. He still nearly knocked him out, as Ali admitted in his book. I don’t think that’s a feat many would have the claim to.

He wouldn’t have had to fight them like this.

I guess fury has zero mental toughness, since he couldn’t even prepare to fight ngannou.

Oh they stand a chance, it’s boxing after all. That doesn’t mean fury would be favoured over foreman.

Not crazy to suggest those guys could beat Foreman. Foreman was a moron when he was young who had next to zero defense and just swung at guys. 220 pound Ron Lyle beat him up and dropped him on his ass multiple times. Sub 215 pound Jimmy Young dropped him. George wasn't some tank back then. That came later when he got much fatter. Joyce has a crazy high work rate and a phenomenal chin. Zhang has freakishly fast hand speed and throws bombs as well as having a head like a bowling ball.

And I sincerely doubt recency bias is more common than nostalgia bias on this forum. And it doesn't matter anyway. Both are poor ways to evaluate the game.

It literally didn't happen with anyone else who fought Ali. Ali would beat them, but the whole let me lay on the ropes and let this moron punch himself out? Only Foreman was stupid enough to fall into that trap. And plenty of guys had Ali in big trouble and almost knocked him out. Norton broke his jaw. Itty bitty 180 pound Cooper blasted him off his feet so badly Ali needed smelling salts in the corner and Dundee was trying to cut his gloves to gain extra time. Frazier damn near stopped him.

Straw man. Not zero. Just clearly not AS mentally tough and disciplined as Usyk. Which clearly Fury wasn't and Usyk beat him twice.

So now we're moving the goalposts. First it was no one of the modern era could beat Foreman and now it's they just wouldn't be favored. Nice.

I was only citing the conditions to argue that foreman's stamina was better than many seem to believe because of that fight. It wasn't about comparing him to ali, but to (theoretically undoped) fury.

 

I think issues Foreman may, or may not have had, simply come from a poor 'boxing brain' in his early career, something he addressed in his comeback. I don't think he had the greatest stamina as a young fighter and like many 'ko machines', didn't like swimming in deep water late in fights. Hard to build stamina when you're knocking everyone over.
