Wilder would have lost to Zhang and Parker 5 years ago. Wilder hasn't lost anything, he's just now being forced to step up and face tougher opponents, because he no longer holds the WBC belt hostage. Whenever Wilder has 'stepped up' to World Level, he has been embarrassed by Fury, Parker and Zhang. There's a reason he avoided Klitschko, there's a reason he's avoided Joshua. The only time he has fought the "Best" fighter in the division, was an out of shape Fury who had been inactive for the best part of 5 years! Luis Ortiz, Bermane Stiverne and Derek Chisora are the three best victories on his resume....That's not the resume of an ATG fighter....Andy Ruiz has beaten Ortiz. Klitschko, Usyk, Dubois, Whyte, Povetkin, Pulev, Hrgovic, Ruiz, Kabayel.....The list goes on and on, it's very telling none of these names have been in the ring with him, yet they've all, bar Kabayel, been in with at least one of Klitschko/Usyk/Fury/Joshua. Deontay Wilder is not an all time great, he's probably not even in the top 10 Heavyweight fighters of his own Era.
Agreed 100%. His best win is now Derrick Chisora. Stiverne...a guy who gets knocked out by Demetrice King. Ortiz...best wins are Thompson and Jennings, and one of them was marred by a PEDs bust. When you are talking even someone like Ernie Shavers, at least you can gauge him by wins like Norton. Wilder...what as he proven?
More truthful words have rarely been spoken on this site. Wilder is, and always has been, a manufactured fraud. Everything about him - from his supposed punching power to his ability to take a punch - is entirely a product of facing the worst collection of pathetic tomato cans, and carefully selected washed up name opponent, glass jawed fringe contenders and overrated aging contenders. And yet, some fell for this conjob.
I do agree that Wilder was an overprotected borderline fraud. However, it is noticeable he has lost a lot of speed and power from 5-10 years ago, probably a lot of punch resistance as well. Hes 41 this year.
Exactly, Wilder was always limited but the idea he's just as dangerous now as he was 6 years ago is nonesense. These same people will claim a prime joshua would beat Dubois and then ridicule a much older Wilder who relied more on his speed
Wilder wasn't dangerous 6 years ago.... He wasn't dangerous 10 years ago, when Stiverne took him 12 rounds. It took him on average 9.25 rounds to get rid of Molina, Duhaupas, Szpilka and Arreola, 3 of whom had been stopped before....And this was 10 years ago. He has always looked bad. People have really short memories....When he was fighting these guys, people would constantly say, when he stepped up, he would get exposed right away, and he did. The first time Deontay Wilder stepped up to face a World Level opponent, who was active, was Joseph Parker, and he was comprehensively outboxed....The same with Zhang, where he was brutally taken apart by a 40 year old non-prime Zhang. In fact the Zhang fight showed truly what POWER actually looks like. Zhang is a much bigger puncher than Wilder and he still carries immense power today, despite his age. Zhang's inability at his age to last 12 rounds also shows what losing your power, due to age/fatigue looks like.....Wilder's power hasn't gone with age, he just never had it to begin with.
The most protected HW champ in the history of the sport. You know his powers were a myth, too, because once he slightly stepped his competition level up from the worst of the worst, his knockouts started being real slogs for him. Once he got to actual world level he never knocked anyone out again. Went the distance with sorry ass Stiverne to win the belt. Took him 9 rounds to get rid of Molina who was a punching bag at the best of times. Duhaupas lasted 11. Szpilka lasted 9. Fat Arreola lasted 8. And then of course there's "I'm so old I helped build the pyramids" Ortiz who was kicking his ass in both fights before catching a right. These are all guys who would have been dealt with quicker by anyone else at the top of the division. Wilder's power came completely from him swinging like a ******. Not from well honed technique. Not from some genetic advantage like giant hands a la Foreman coupled with an insane work ethic to improve. No, it was just from him forgoing all respectable boxing technique and tactics and loading up 1000% on his punches and swinging them from Timbuktu. Surprise, surprise that once he ran into some people who actually had skills to avoid that silly nonsense he got smoked. The real crime is how lazy ass Fury flattered this dude. If Fury had been better prepared the first go around he never gets knocked down twice and Wilder's story is over there. The 2nd fight was how things truly should have gone from the jump. Then the 3rd fight was Fury not being focused again and looking like absolute crap. Luckily for him, Wilder is way more crap than he'll ever be so it didn't end up costing him.
Luis Ortiz was seen as world level after he smoked Jennings when Wlad couldn't. Zhang is 280lb with a much larger skillset and his power didn't come from speed and leverage like a whip or a wire. You know what ? Keep describing prime Wilder as a non threat and a fraud. It just makes Furys resume look even worse lol
Wilder was dangerous his first fight with Ortiz was a good fight and a good win. Ortiz was old but was still a threat. The fights with Fury took a lot out of him physically and mentally.
Wilder lost against a post fat camp Fury, and was badly beaten up the next two times. That was a prime Deontay. We could all see though in the Luis Ortiz fight, for the first 7 rounds how limited Deontay was. He struggled with an extremely old and slow opponent like Ortiz, and only got out of jail because Ortiz gassed out.
