Naz sounding very slow here, not sure if he is just in a sugar coma or the blows to the head have got to him. In any which way they all have Brendan to thank for their success; trying to one up each other whilst Brendan lies peacefully underground is not gratifying to anyone, it is not what Brendan would have wanted, and makes all parties concerned look lower.
Unlike Naz, Johnny cared deeply for Brendan. In Brendan's final days it was Johnny who stayed with him overnight by his bedside in the hospital/ or hospice.
Just listening to the show now, he starts off by going on a long defence of Conor Benn and essentially saying he must be innocent of the drugs failure because he is believable and because he likes his dad. Terrible takes from him here. Spencer talking real sense. We should have a dedicated thread for the TalkSport boxing podcast IMO, always some good talking points every week that maybe don’t warrant their own threads.
When I was a kid my grandfather used to skip through Naz’s ringwalks and most of the pre and post fight interviews. I’m kind of at that stage now, you have to separate the art from the artist. Naz will always be Naz, he can have good insights on fights and the sport, but beyond that it’s hard to take too much seriously. If Spencer is ending up as the voice of reason, then you know it’s over. Jordan should have brought in a box of Krispy Kreme, might have subdued Naz like Barrera’s jab back in the day.
They're full of shite on talkshite and Spencer Oliver is the worst of the lot. That's saying something.
"Separate the the art from the artist" is a very apt phrase to use when analysing Naz. Fantastic skill set he had as a boxer, hard not to be entertained by him. As a person though? Lost all respect for him when he decided to show off to his friends in his sports car, hitting some poor bloke at 90mph and fleeing the scene.
Completely agree with this. I did enjoy Naz having a pop at Nelson as he was horrible to watch 99% of the time, did seem terrified to be hit sometimes , benefitted hugely from Naz and he was no stranger to talking bollox either. Hes had a long career as a pundit, he's terrible, he's the ultimate company man. Other than that, I like him
I’d forgotten about that. I don’t think he’s ever been accused of being either intelligent or pleasant.
Hahmed has a lot of great traits. An enormous hubris, thick as mince, extremely short, morbidly obese, selfish, unprincipled, venal, and with a terrible accent.
I love how people still defending Benn and believing just ignore the giant elephant in the room that he hasnt had a KO since been "cleared to fight"
Back in the day Nigel Benn disliked Hamed. Threatened him at The Brittard Awards and slagged him off in his rubbish autobiography.
It has to be one of the most blatant cases in the history of boxing. Got one of the worst home decisions ive ever seen against Peynaud, then goes on a run of searching people. Fight pulled due to "adverse findings" and now he cant even spark an old man 2 weight divisions below him.
