They knew after the Pulev and Povetkin fights that it was never going to happen. The cycles, the acne, the cuts, then the defeats. They did their best with him but it's over, even if he fights twenty more times.

 

decent technically with a very good jab and footwork but his power punches were delivered very poorly. Terrible technique. Peter Fury is spoken about like some genius.

 

He fought last year didn't he?
I genuinely thought he was supposed to be fighting regularly and trying to build some momentum.
Could be a tough night for anyone but never really let his hands go. Still only 31 if he got his act together could be in some money fights but maybe he's just not that arsed.

 

It comes down to his promoter and uncle. He's been frozen out. The age comment amused me a bit. Not that you're wrong, but people have been saying that since he was about 25. In a few years it'll be "he's only 34, not old for a heavyweight, he's got a few years left".

The absolute cheek of this bloke to say people don't understand. It's been three years since this interview, Hughie, and you've done absolutely **** all. You know when somebody keeps saying "I believe", they don't really believe it. They're just waffling on about a lot of shite.

 

haha yeah that's very true... He did start young and he did fine really. Good win over Sexton for the British. To be honest he's only lost to world level operators so there is some ability but I don't think he wants it. Surely if you have options on him you get him some fights? He's not a massive name in his own right but it does carry a bit of recognition.

 

He was technically very good, he looked very promising very young and even after his losses thought he gave a good account and could improve on the performance given his age and some minor adjustments, but as time has gone on, with inactivity, the lack of physical development (man strength), he just hasnt got it to make it all the way. He is a tough night for most though but the inactivity whether through health reasons or lack of interest have really wrecked his career for me.

 

More suited to the amateurs, one of the best technical heavyweights, sometimes people don't carry over well to the pro game. Different kettle of fish

 

Should never have abandoned the style he used against and before Parker.

Yes I know people didn't like it, however that was the best version of him. Trying to change him into something he isn't, is what I feel has derailed him.

Professional boxing rewards people who win most of the time, regardless of style.

his technical ability starts and ends with good footwork and a jab. What else does he do well technically? He can’t throw straight punches nor hooks, isn’t any good to the body, haven’t seen a good uppercut from him in as long as I can remember, despite his good footwork he doesn’t seem very hard to hit… so what is it?

 

He's good defensively, he anticipates well, has a good guard and shows great composure.
He has very good footwork and distance control, uses good lateral movement which keeps him off the center line all whilst refraining from wasting energy.
He has a good jab, whilst very safety first, its accurate, quick and used typically whilst moving backwards or laterally.
He has good balance, positioning and uses his size responsibly, keeping opponents at range and clinching effectively and lastly, he has a disciplined approach, he sticks to his game plan and doesnt chase knock outs or take risks.
