Anthony Joshua is the most overrated Heavyweight in history

I think that's ungenerous. In any event, if he and Fury get it on, they still essentially be competing to see who was the best between Klitschko and Usyk, so we shall see.

Some British fight fans are notorious for overrating their boxers.

Chris Eubank was never really a top fighter, but some UK fans made him out to be on the level of Marvin Hagler or Roy Jones.

Anthony Joshua has been a decent heavyweight contender, but he was never as great as some made him out to be.

So I don't see how he's THAT overrated. Maybe a little. Maybe he deserved silver. Yeah he split with Ruiz who never had another career highlight. But he is definitely still in the running to be remembered as the boss of that micro-era, and for right or wrong, of he beats Fury, he will be.

 

He's not a bad heavyweight, I agree.

But he received two underserved wins in the London Olympics, over Cammarelle and Savon, and was heavily hyped after that.

Let's get to the point. Joshua has defeated a lot of names from the very top of the weight class over the years. He never backed down, even when he messed up and everyone advised him against it, he took tough rematches.

Yes, the guy messed up more times than, say, Fury, but that could also be due to the fact that he took risks much more often in his career, facing a wide variety of dangerous guys.

For me, Joshua is still a guy who has a chance at winning the "silver medal of the post-Klitschko era." The gold clearly belongs to Usyk. It should be between him and Tyson Fury. If he beats him, even at this stage of his career, he would deserve to be the No. 2 title of this era, which is practically at the very end.

 

This site gets stranger by the moment. No he is not overrated and has fought a pretty decent slate of fighters. All the top guy seem to have some hate here.

 

Bro, for the limited time I have on this site, there’s always the same thread every week about AJ and Wilder being overrated (which is obviously true). Your opinion on the matter has probably been stated enough. Why do I keep seeing variations of the same thread about these two fighters?

Saying AJ is overrated in 2026 isn’t the mic-drop moment you think it is; maybe this thread would have been interesting in 2018. What new insight does this thread bring? There are great posters on this website who actually add to or expand your knowledge of boxing. Stop with the copy and paste arguments; maybe put some effort in so maybe you can add to this dead house of a topic. I already know exactly how this thread is going to go (line for line). Few of this guys are top 10 in moment when they fight. Few was top 5. Few lost their position only because unactive.

Also he looks much better than other dudes in fight with little easier opposition. He looks much better with Kevin Johnson than Fury, he looks much better than Wilder with Molina. He looks like one milion dollar man with Ngannou compare to Fury who should had draw in many opinion in his fight with MMA dude...

Yes Joshua is "little" overrated. Just because all fans got gigantic expectaction from him. Also their is Usyk who destroy all this dudes plans because he is just genius.

The funny part is Fury is RIGHT THERE as the correct choice. No one has ever claimed AJ is the best HW of all-time. People, including actual professionals like Tim Bradley, were saying that about Fury. A guy who only has 4 belt holders on his record. One of those being the most protected HW of all-time in Wilder. Another one being a middling cruiserweight champ in Cunningham. Fury, in a close to 40 fight career, has only had eight title fights. Only four defenses, one of those being against a guy he'd already beaten twice who wasn't ranked in the Top 10.

Nobody (except for Eddie Hearn) has ever rated AJ as anything other than exactly what he is; a decent HW champ who fell quite short of being great. Crazy the hate AJ gets. And for what? Is it his fault Hearn turned him into a superstar and got him paid like crazy? Is it his fault he's so popular? No. He just rode the wave like anyone would do. Yet we've got literal drug cheats who associate with guys on the FBI's Most Wanted list who get less hate than this dude. Weird, man.
