Anthony Joshua is the most overrated Heavyweight in history

No one ever said it was a great resume. Just at the time, was a better resume then what other HWs were doing. And that's more reflective of the HW division than any one boxer.

I think you're confusing popularity with rating.

 

AJ is behind Usyk and Fury in terms of boxing ability in his era but in front of the rest. I think hes rated about right just behind those. Hes Bruno level which isnt bad.

 

Many posts by many posters have gone on about what an exquisite resume Joshua has. If you point out that there are asterisks to the names on the resume (for instance, Klitschko was 41, retirement fight, hadn't fought in two years, was away from home for the first time in a decade, no belts), they get wildly upset and defensive.

These fans want Joshua's resume to just say "Klitschko" and that's it. It's a lame marketing ploy by Joshua's management (the tactical targeting of older names) to boost credibility.

Any honest discussion around here is met with fanboy outcry. "I'm not even a Joshua fan, but why does he have so many haters??!!?"

 

One of the reasons why Joshua is despised by some is his contempt for the population that made him successful, as we can see in the Eddie Chambers DM's and his "social activism". Also, most if not all of the American hype heroes on this forum were "drug cheats", and protected A-sides like Joshua are no exception. And the FBI is a criminal organisation in my book.

 

Yes, as I said, compared to the other HWs at the time. You have to take in to consideration context and when period they are talking about.
There's no doubt in 2018-2019 he had the best resume out of current HWs. And again, that's not to say it was great, but how little others were doing.

You can make the brunt and focus of your post worrying about what fans say, or you can keep it real and without emotions and simply look at his resume AT THE TIME. Obviously it's not the best resume at HW today. But at the time, he had three of the big 4 belts. WBA, IBF, WBO. Just the facts dude.

 

And that's a big part of it. A few overzealous fans said stupid things. Pissed off posters here, so they use stuff like, "Well, fans said he's the best!!" and it created a life of it's own. But the haters or detractors are pretty much arguing against a narrative that never really existed.

Hell, Fury has been compared and said to beat so many ATGs, much more than was ever said about AJ.

 

"Most overrated" is a difficult one to guage. One fighter may be much better than another but still more overrated, overrated does not equal bad (Ali and Tyson may be the most overrated HW's in terms of how highly they've been rated relative to their ability, which may still be very high). And are we talking overrated relative to your era or between eras? In his own era, Joshua has generally been overrated in my opinion, but he may well be underrated relative to past heavyweights. Maybe he'd demolish Frazier in a couple of rounds due to his size, power, PED athleticism etc.

In his own era, he's far below Usyk and below Fury, but he's one of four likely HoF HW's in the era, along with Wilder. In terms of prime HW's in this century that puts him in a fairly exclusive club, one of seven in total.

At his best, he was 22-0, 21 KO's with wins over 41 Wlad, 39 Povetkin, Whyte and Parker, which isn't a small feat even with his A-side advantage.

 

Doesn't seem like a very fair take to me. And I'm not sure anyone IS overrating Joshua that much? He's had a good career but fell short of being an ATG. But, at his best, he was one of the major players in the division and beat some decent fighters. Though fell short when it really mattered. He has a lot to be proud of. I've never understood the hate he gets. If we are talking pure overrated I would say Tyson Fury, pre Usyk, was much more overrated.

 

Like he aint some bum fighter. He was a 3 belt champ for 3 years and after he lost his belts immediately regained them.
