Wouldn't mind seeing a few more opinions on this one...the best of Marciano vs. Conn from Louis 1, over 15 rounds...

Calzaghe would pitch a shutout against Marciano so I think Conn could at least get a majority decision.

Yes he’s right Louis told Conn after fight he had it the whole time he was just waiting to get him.

Marciano's the stylistically tougher fight. I'm also partial to the notion Joe was a bit drained.

Louis was textbook. He'd never throw punches off balance and they were always perfectly delivered. Against an ATG fast technical smoothy like Conn this could make him a little bit stagnant and predictable. Off the pace if you like. He got him in the end, of course. Marciano wasn't bothered looking pretty, he'd throw a variety of hard punches from all sorts of positions, on balance or not. If he didn't hit your chin he'd often hit you somewhere. He would be nowhere near as predictable for Conn, and that's a problem for the small man facing a guy with knockout power. I think he'd get Conn a bit earlier than Joe. He'd put more pressure on and not let Conn dictate the pace and exchanges. Conn is tough, and awesome, but i think he'd be struggling by round 10.

Marciano mid-late rounds stoppage after breaking Conn down, Conn can’t keep him off.

I saw a version of Conn Louis 1 that I had never seen before it showed a closer ground level view. These guys were battling and you can see the speed and combo punching etc for both. If Conn could fight like that I think he could make it very tough on Rocky. Just can’t see him able to stop Rocky so eventually Marciano’s gonna get to him. I think Conn was a little lucky against Louis he fought well but was living dangerously kind of stayin dry walking thru the rain drops. So don’t think Conn can get it done vs Marciano.

Marciano was adept at applying relentless pressure and a nonstop heavy-handed attack to the body and head. Exactly the type of style that eventually takes out the Conn type fighter. See Marciano vs. 179-pound Harry Matthews, 81-3-5, a fine boxer who could not elude that attack, and 185-pound 53-3 Roland LaStarza II, another guy who tried to box him but ultimately got stopped. If Walcott couldn't keep Marciano off for 15, then Conn wouldn't either.

Louis was getting outboxed by Conn, but he continually applied pressure throughout, firing heavy blows, and never giving Conn a moment's rest. The constant aggression in part forced Conn to fight to keep him off, and in fighting he did very well, but it also made him fight at a fast enough clip such that eventually Louis would and did catch him with a good one, and one was enough for Louis to follow up with the finishers. Louis had that calm methodical confidence. It would be the same with Marciano vs. Conn, only I suspect that Marciano might have gotten him out even faster. Louis was a bit more patient. As soon as Conn started hitting Marciano, I think Rocky would have increased his pace and pressure even more.

do you really wish to scrutinize Conns record the way you do Marciano opponents at HW? His best wins were light punching HWs got knocked out by the first real puncher at hw he faced. Was an excellent boxer without much power. You think he’s surviving 15 w Marciano? At least Lastarza faced men who could punch and survived.
