Tony Yoka announced on his social media that he wants to replace Jared Anderson, who is injured, against Solomon Dacres on May 9th. What do you think of this fight?
Yoka is kind of at a crossroads right now. After those losses, he really needs a solid win to get any momentum back, but at the same time he can’t afford to take another risky fight and lose again. Dacres isn’t elite level yet, but he’s young, hungry, and has size, so it’s not exactly a “safe” comeback opponent. Style-wise, I think it could be a bit messy. Yoka at his best is more technical, likes to box at range and keep things controlled, but lately he hasn’t looked as sharp or confident. Dacres is more raw, but he’ll bring pressure and won’t be intimidated, especially getting an opportunity like this on short notice. The big question is which version of Yoka shows up. If he boxes smart, uses his jab and experience, he should be able to outpoint Dacres over the rounds. But if he gets dragged into a rough fight or looks gun-shy again, Dacres could definitely make it competitive or even pull off something. Also, taking this on relatively short notice says a lot — could mean Yoka is confident and ready, or just desperate to get back in the mix.
