Louis is a little much for DB, but what about the guys ranked by Ring Magazine that year? This is the annual top 10 from 1938...

    1. Lou Nova 6'2" 198
    2. Max Baer 6'2" 210
    3. Bob Pastor 5'11" 190
    4. Tony Galento 5'9" 227
    5. Maxie Rosenbloom 5'10" 180
    6. Len Harvey 6' 181
    7. Clarence Burman 5'11" 186
    8. Roscoe Toles 6'2" 196
    9. Gus Dorazio 5'11" 184
    10. Tommy Farr 6'1" 208

The weights were from random fights from that year. DB was listed at 6'2" 196 vs. Zurdo, so size-wise he fits in pretty well with the 1938 Heavyweights. Curious where DB might fit in that group. What his record may look like after fighting the 10 guys listed above.

I don't think that beating Zurdo Ramirez puts you in conversations about fighting Joe Louis.
Years ago, when Zurdo was "fighting" at 168, I had a fighter on a card where he was the main event. Two fighters, actually. I met him backstage. I am 6'3" tall and I weighed 190-195 at the time and he was bigger than me. He made his record by always being much , much larger than the guys he fought. That night Ramirez beat down a much smaller guy but he didn't show me anything that made me think that he was good. I have never thought that he was good. Just big.
Benavidez is better than Ramirez but he, too, has benefitted from a size advantage through most of his career. He has fast hands and puts his punches together well but he isn't beating Joe louis. He would have a world of trouble with guys that can hit and that will punch while he is punching because he isn't thoughtful about where his hand go while he is punching. He has fought his whole career in an era where guys take turns.
