The way people go on about this fight is crazy to me.

Lewis was arguably behind vs Bruno after 6 rounds.

Lewis was arguably behind vs Mercer after 6 rounds.

Lewis lost the first 2 rounds to Briggs clearly.

Anyone would think no Heavyweight champion in history has ever got off to a slow start.

Lewis started taking control of the fight after the 3rd round. And he started pushing Vitali back with his own power punches, and landed the best punch of the fight in the 6th round with a brutal uppercut.

Vitali needed 60+ stitches and could've gone blind in 1 eye had the fight continued.

People need to stop with the ifs buts and maybes and see reality that it was a clear win without controversy.

Seems like if it was that easy for Lennox there would have been a rematch. The demand and money was there. HBO was begging for it.

I have not watched this in ages, but I recall Vitaly getting beaten up real bad, especially in the last 2 rounds.

Scorecards only matter if you get to hear the final bell.

No doubt he was on his way to being knocked out and left a damaged bloody pulp.

The score is not worth the paper it is written on when the fight doesn't go the distance.

That didn't happen. Round 1 looked more like Lewis was getting beaten from pillar to post.

But it was a close fight.

Of course he wasn't. A legit question is if anyone else, ever, was cut that bad. Lewis was punching half his face off. I've never seen anyone carved up so badly. Sliced him up like a thanksgiving turkey.

Thus why thumbing is supposed to be illegal. Not for Lewis though.

The problem is that Vitali was a better boxer and had a better chin, but had low power for a SHW. That's why he couldn't damage Lewis the same, when others put him to sleep with clean shots.
And Vitali had bad defence against tall fighters clearly.
Wlad would have destroyed Lewis in the same fight, he would only need one or two power-shot connects to end the fight. Lewis would not only be slumped in the corner like Tony Thompson, he'd be out cold.
