I think he really needs to reset, try a different trainer like a SugarHill Steward or someone just to change his fight rhythm. As much of a warrior as he is, he was a little too one trick pony tonight, and Dubois had no trouble slipping that straight right. Had he landed it full bodied, I think it would have been lights out for DDD, but the same angle each time was a bit frustrating to wwatch. He had success with the uppercut but started using it too late. Most importantly though, he needs serious rest, maybe even taking the rest of the year out. In no way should he be rushing back into the ring after a fight like that. He has all the physical attributes to come again. Taking inspiration from Lennox Lewis when he completely switched to Manny Steward I think would be an ideal for Fabio. Great fight and great card.
I think so, possible to recover as he wasn't concussed heavily or anything but it will take his body months to get better.
I don’t think he can really change because what made him successful is his ability to take a shot and then throw back. He also started boxing late and there’s defensive habits you won’t overcome
Nah I don't buy that can't teach an old dog new tricks stuff. He's a better boxer now than when he started at 21 so he can still learn more and drill in new techniques.
There’s certain things you can teach but Fabio will never change his style because that’s what he’s known for and why people love him.
He's already got the crowd now though, people like him and will watch him. He's at the point where they'd just want to see him win rather than get his brains beat out. I know because I'm one of them, and I think he's smart enough to realise it.
He is what he is. A very late start to boxing. He isn't going to be anything other than a granite chin fighter with power in both hands for 12 rnds. He isn't going to outbox anyone nor will he become slick and avoid punches.
Honestly, I think he needs to get into broadcasting. He's very good at speaking in interviews and is quite smarter than the average boxer. Put a mic in his hand and let him replace some of these terrible British commentators.
The flash knockdown was about the worst thing that could have happened to him. He threw with abandon for the next four rounds and was various shades of gassed after that. Tbf that looks like the only way he could have beaten DDD but it led to an awful beating which could have been lessened if he was better paced.
The thing is though, you can't adapt the same way between 21 and 31 compared to 11 and 21, despite both being a ten year gap. You see this in every kind of sport, both the most physical ones and the ones which are mostly mentally challenging ones, like Chess as an example. I'd put it like this....At 11-21, you can still elevate your ceiling. But at 21-31 you can only work towards getting closer to said ceiling. At least at a Professional level anyway. Of course, if you haven't been in a gym in your life until 31, you can obviously be in a better state by 41, but you're never going to be where you could have been at 31 if you started at 21.
He should have a break and change trainers. Id sugest McGuigan, for me he's the best trainer in the country and he consistently improves his fighters and IF Wardley exercises that rematch in clause, McGuigan obviously has a lot of knowledge about Dubois.
I'm not expecting Wardley to become Muhammad Ali within the next few years. Just be fluid enough to change up his approach and attack patterns with the right hand. I don't think that's as big of an ask as some of you make it out to be.
