Funny thing is I bet on Sean to win but by stoppage. I could see the scenario where chimaev fatigued into standing with Sean and I thought Sean would drown him late. Was dumb to not also bet Sean by any method. My poor bet layering has really cost me this year. I had van, volkov, Brady, sean.... and wardley. Also had one of same selections but traded the Sean win with chimaev having 6 takedown Even had I bet on Sean straight up Wardley would have cost me. Pretty mad I didn't bet Sean as a straight up bet and the takedown as a straight up bet. Bad bet structuring by me.
Sean probably deserved the nod on strikes, but it was an extremely unimpressive showing from both. Sean threw nothing but jabs moving backwards, but he had the right to call Chimaev a pu55y in the build-up? That was fully expected, but Khamzat was unexpectedly out of sorts, opting to fight at mid range throwing shots with basicaly nothing on them, and not making the most of the wrestling exchanges. My money is on a bad weight cut, but ultimately, I don't care. It was a trash fight, and the fact the belt was given to either of them is an absolute disgrace. I have zero interest in seeing another Sean Strickland fight ever, unless it is one in which he and his waste-of-biological-material brain get switched off like in the Pereira fight. He's a gobshite and is only content to be remotely aggressive when he's sparring the likes of Sneako. He's a stupid cüñt.
I dont really value the type of work Sean was doing over what Chimaev was doing. Backing up throwing 10 more defensive range jabs doesn't weigh a lot to me. Yes plenty of seans work got through but so did Chimaevs. If Chimaev wasn't being effective, Sean would have started coming forward. He disengaged from fighting for the majority of the fight, imo. Ill have to take a look at the punch stats tho, the rbr ones.
Let me guess, Adesanya will call out Strickland. No way in he'll he deserves a title shot. That better not happen.
It's amazing that the best MMA fighters in the world have no idea the effects of cutting massive amounts of weight and weight draining. Dont they follow the sport of boxing?? This dude looked like shite at the weigh in and was forced to fight Seans game on his feet because he didnt have the energy to fight his game on the ground. You saw the success he had early taking him down and getting his back.. Then Chimaev forced to fight up stairs all of round 3 with no take down attempts at all.. that's because . no strength/energy left. Good for Strickland , he deserved that decision as he clearly landed his jab all night at will and fought his fight. and clearly outpointed Chimaev.. Unbelievable, the mismanagement in the Khamzat corner. He looked like shite
I think you are overlooking the takedown threat here. Strickland sheathed a lot of his usual weapons in this fight, and most certainly so because he did not want to get taken down. Regardless, this fight could have easily have been scored for Chimaev.
I know Pereira is moving up, so that's why he is looking so puffy, but DDP looks like hes moving up too. This content is protected
Strickland supposedly had a Right AC joint injury going into the fight. Looked like he was trying to hide something . Relying on his left. Job well done though
