Just watched it again and imo they should have been looking at pulling him out from the end of rd 6.
To let him continue was ok, but when rd 7 finished, wardley was done and he should not have been in there for rd 8.
Totally wreckless and not a **** was given for his future longevity.

Fabio should be extremely proud of where he has come from, I've enjoyed his journey, he has achieved more than most fighters can dream of.
He dipped his toe in the game and became heavyweight champion of the world, his name is now set in stone in the history of boxing.
I don't know what he got paid, but I'm sure in the 10yrs he put in it paid off for him and his family in the end with this fight, and not many fighters get that chance.
I don't think I would like to see him continue, I would like to see him leave it alone now, and not be drawn into bigger fights based on his heart and courage which I would not question at all.
Be satisfied that you reached the pinnacle and bow out with a few quid and enjoy it.

 

Round 6? This just proves that Davison can’t win. He pulls him out in Round 6 and he becomes a laughing stock. Ridiculed by everyone in the media and fans online. Context matters in boxing and we know that Wardley is still live and already having scored KDs.

You can make the argument for stopping from Round 9 onwards but Round 6 or 7 is far too early for a guy like Wardley in a world title fight.

It's ok to agree to disagree.
But take a look at Wardley in the corner between rd 4 and 5.
Look at the look in his eyes, his soul had gone, he knew that he was in a different place, he was in the unknown where it suddenly became reality where he wasn't fighting Phil from HR.
As brave and courageous as he is, and I am not questioning that, I just found it very uncomfortable viewing and this young man is lucky he came out hopefully with his faculties ok.
His corner were a disgrace and nobody will convince me otherwise, he should have been pulled out long before he was stopped.
Nobody gives a **** how BD would look, after all he isn't the one getting twatted, the fighter is.

 

I want to see Wardley fight again, I think all this "I don't want to see him fight again" talk is very premature, it's boxing, not tag rugby. We had this with Eggington too after the Smith fight, imagine if he had stopped fighting after that, what he and we would have missed out on.

 

After Ali v Frazier 1, would you have never wanted to see Ali fight again after taking all that punishment? After Frazier v Foreman would you have wanted Frazier to be saved from himself and never fight again? How about Duran after Hearns obliterated him, would you have wanted him to stop? It's the fight game, everyone knows the score, it's not like they're taking this punishment every week in small hall shows for a grand a time.

 

Wardley's arc is done. It's like Rendall Munroe, a hell of a story, rode his luck, landed a big fight then found his level.

It's been a hell of a ride for him, hopefully he's made for life, but he doesn't need anymore. Where would he even go next? Chisora in a shootout? He's never going to fight for a world title again.

He put in a hell of a performance on Saturday, against an opponent who is probably under-rated on balance, definitely a world level operator. Gave it everything he had, put us all on the edge of our seats. Just walk away a legend, satisfied that you made it from nothing and do something else.

 

How do you know he's never going to box for a title again? I'm sure he has more ambition than you do in whatever line of work you're in. What a defeatist sod.

It's easy to say this with hindsight but no one would've agreed with pulling Wardley out after the 6th round.

He'd scored 2 knockdowns and the fight was still even on the scorecards after 6th round.

Pulling out of a Heavyweight title fight at that time would've been seen as madness.

I'd agree with after 9 rounds but after 6 ? Definitely not.

I said after rd6 they should have looked at it, I didn't say they should have stopped it.
Just watch the last 30 seconds of rd6, Fabio was in a terrible state, rocked to his boots, basically the writing was on the wall.
I was ok with them sending him back out again, because as you said he had the two knock-downs, but the 7th for me was where the corner should have started to get serious about the situation he was in, and it was a dangerous one.
Personally I would have not let him back out for the 9th.
Fighters at times need saving from themselves.
I can't believe it took until the 10th I think it was before the commentators started saying this needs to be stopped, Carl Frampton can be heard saying at the start of rd 10 somebody needs to throw the towel.
Wardley was staggering before foster took him to see the doctor, his legs were gone.
He reminded me of Michael Watson coming to centre ring in the final round against Eubank, and we all know how that ended.
I understand the excitement of a fight, but let's be realistic, that fight went on for at least 3rds longer than it should have.
I just hope Wardley doesn't suffer any long term issues afterwards.

 

The worrying aspect to me was when Wardley at the start of the 9th round he couldn't walk in a straight line as he left his corner.

That gave me Eubank/Watson 2 vibes.

That's when the fight definitely should've been stopped.
