Yes, I see the same result as with AJ. Jake would still be the much smaller and yes, less skilled man in the fight. That's a fatal combination in boxing.

Paul was virtually on the run from the ringing of the bell. Legit not even fighting to be honest, like those first couple of rounds have to be one of the most negative performances in boxing history

Yes, but AJ was indeed a bit nervous to start off the fight. He knew even if there was only a 1% chance that Jake would catch him, that happening in front of millions on Netflix would be a career killer.

He tried to force and rush a KO in the early rounds, but Jake ran, unlike Ngannou who just came right forward.

I think most professional boxers would have had a similar fear tbh

Your spot on, a lose would have finished him

He should still have been able to cut the ring off or countered those shots Paul landed more effectively. I feel like people let AJ off the hook for what was an embarrassing performance.

He still hasn't fully healed from the AJ jaw break and his future in the sport may be in question now

It was all fun and games when he was fighting smaller, older, retired MMA fighters and boxers, but I figured when he finally fought someone who could hurt him, he'd come to the realization that he's already rich and question if he needs to be doing this?

It seems though that youre kinda assuming AJ was being timed at how fast he could KO Jake.

It seemed pretty clear to me AJ was content to cruise through the motions until the end came, which was inevitable.

You think you see AJ in there in his highest gear? You see round 1 and 2 and think thats him going 100%?
Its not obvious to you hes taking his time?

Had someone told him you have to finish Jake in three rounds to get paid, the fight would have looked completely different.

AJ was in cruise control and was content to let the KO come when it comes, and it did.

Many pundits going into the fight said it would look bad if AJ took more than 2-4 rounds to get him out of there. I don't really buy that he was paid to carry Jake Paul tbh, it feels like a cop out.

Yes Paul fought a very negative fight, but we also need to consider the skill and size gap. It was a poor showing from AJ performance wise. Maybe he had an off night or something, idk.

Im not implying AJ outright carried Jake for the sake of carrying him, Im with you I dont buy that narrative at all either. I think people are overthinking this on all sides here.

AJ knew he would stop Jake. He just went in there and let the physics of boxing do their job. He wasnt racing the clock to see how fast he could stop him, and I think people are underestimating how hard it is to stop someone whose devoting their entire performance on surviving as long as possible.

You say his critics say it would look bad if it took longer then 4 rounds to stop Jake. But thats with his critics assuming Jake would be competing, but he wasnt competing. its entirely probably that he would have stopped Jake in 4 rounds if Jake had given any effort to actually compete in there, and if they were competing in a normal sized ring.

Jake came in to run away, and he intentionally gave himself an extra 80 square feet in which to run away in. Then, when he wasnt running away, and AJ actually closed the gap to do work, he would flop to the ground.

In round 4 for example, when he wasnt outright retreating from AJ, once AJ would get in close he would flop down to the floor. He flopped to the floor 4 times in round 4.

To me it seems people gloss over how much time you eat of a 3 minute round when you spend the entire time creating as much distance as you can in an abnormally large ring, and then when that distance is closed, you flop to the floor to avoid contact.

Had Jake fought in a method that even resembled someone trying to compete in there, its quite likely AJ would have stopped him in 3 or 4.

I think people would be surprised how many of their favorite fighters would fail to blast a jake out within 4 rounds thats in there flat out running away in a larger then normal ring, and who starts flopping to the ground every time you close the gap on him. I think people underestimate how long someone can survive doing that. Its non comparable to fighting someone in there trying to compete.

I agree it wasnt a great performance, I just think a lot of it is understandable given the contexts.

I suppose its also possible that it is indicative of AJ being completely finished as a top fighter. We will see in his next few fights.

You bring up a lot of fair points there.

I'd have to rewatch the fight, but I recall AJ taking effort in pinning Jake Paul but it just seemed off, like AJ forgot how to close in on opponents. I can't get past the obvious gulf in ability either. Put Dubios in there (basic as he is) where he's constantly marching forward with his jab and I don't see Jake Paul getting off the stool for round 3, and I'd consider AJ to be more experienced and skilled than Dubios even if he did lose to him.

You're right in that some questions will be answered in AJs next fight. I expect a sparring session, as I don't think an early KO really does much for AJ at this point.

Jake fought like a scared man and as you inferred it's not easy to box someone who doesn't want to actually engage and box.

I still give credit to Jake for stepping in the ring with AJ, many here and elsewhere didn't believe he'd actually go through with the fight.

If he's done with boxing, he actually went further than many predicted and made a hell of a lot of money. He doesn't need to take the injuries and damages that come with the sport if it's not truly in his heart.

Do you think this might actually end up happening? I wouldn’t be shocked if this becomes a reality.
