In your opinion which of these boxers has the superior resume and if they fought each other who do you believe would win a fight between them.
Without looking too closely, I think it would be safe to say Machen has the better resume. As to performance level and Head-to-Head prowess, I like Lyle in terms of what he was 'capable of', but Machen stretching of Liston the distance is noteworthy. These are just off the top of my head thoughts.
Eddie Machen resume Jerry Quarry Nine Valdes x2 Joey Maxim x2 Bob Baker Cleveland Williams draw Zora Folley draw Doug Jones Tommy Jackson Howard King Mike DeJohn Brian London Willi Besmanoff Ron Lyle resume Earnie Shavers Joe Bugner Jimmy Ellis Oscar Bonavena Gregorio Peralta draw Buster Mathis Sr Manuel Ramos Boone Kirkman Jurgen Blin Scott LeDoux Vincent Rondon Jose Luis Garcia Jack O'Halloran I'd give Machen the edge personally.
As already been pointed out, Machen has the better record—and he also looked significantly better even in the fights he lost. For example against Sonny Liston and Joe Frazier...who were in their prime while Foreman and Ali were past their peak against Lyle or, like Foreman, psychologically shaken—and yet still won.
