Holmes (Holyfield Fight) vs PRIME Morrison

Going w/ Larry on the late stoppage. Cuts & or swelling and Morrison does not make it to the finishing line. And even at that age Larry would be turning him constantly.

 

Morrison boxed a perfect fight against Foreman, but Holmes has a better job than Foreman.

 

TM resisted his own nature against an old Foreman because old Foreman is still crazily strong. Holmes is in a weird area of having just enough power to possibly stop TM but not enough to cause him to try to box cagy. He'll go in, bombs away, it will turn into a dogfight. Holmes' body will get battered, he'll be stunned here and there, he will shove off, stiff-arm, throw uppercuts on a TM who is lurching and trying to smash him on the ropes, and whereas I knee-jerk went to pick a decision which is sensible enough, I think Holmes does actually have just enough in the tank and in the strength department to have picked Morrison apart by the late stage of the fight without getting hurt enough to be stopped himself and that the fight Morrison will try is going to make this happen. They will have to fight it out to a stoppage and Holmes will win, I suspect.

 

Holmes gets a decision but I can see him getting rocked at least once here.

hard to tell.. Holyfield held him up. Barely got out of second gear.

 

Even at that age Holmes would give that tanning booth hype job a boxing lesson.

 

Preaching was pretty noble tho.

 

His post is also way off the mark for a few reasons.

1. Tyson dropped Holmes with a lethal right hand counter over his jab. Morrison didn't have a game changing right hand like Tyson, his offence was built around the left hook which Holmes wasn't vulnerable to.

2. So I don't see how he thinks Morrison would drop Holmes like Tyson did ? Was Holmes ever dropped with a left hook in his entire career ? So there's your answer.

3. A prime Tyson is on a different stastosphere to Morrison completely different level of fighters.

4. Holmes could take punishment even in his 40s McCall gave him a good working over in the 9th of their fight. And Holmes survived into the 12th round pretty comfortably, Holmes was also significantly worse in 1995 compared to 1992.

5. Holmes said in the Mercer fight whilst schooling him. The same Mercer who dismantled Morrison BTW "I ain't no Tommy Morrison". So that shows you how confident Holmes would've been vs Morrison.

 

I share your opinion. I do think it is possible Holmes could have been knocked down, but the entire point of the post is that Holmes would win.

I would agree with that. But this version of Holmes is kinda old and I don't think he'd be able to deal with the single, rather blunt, but 15lb club-like arrow that Tommy brings. Take prime Holmes and I'll go with him.

 

Prime Holmes wins every second without ever going up the gears, likely stops and exhausted Tommy before 10. This match? Oooh, really interesting. I don't think you can compare Holmes beating Mercer, who although he remains one of my favourite fighters, won mant fights by being overly reliant on his obstinance, jab and durability but he could be uninspired, lazy and I think his blend of skills and apathy was perfect for Holme who, because of his very nature, he probably underestimated.

Prime Tommy is probably the one Mercer beat. Wow. He looked explosive, accurate, athletic up until the brutal denoument. I don't think old Holmes can stand up to that kind of assault and he likely goes over at some point. And I say that as a massive fan of Morrison but a bigger fan of Holmes...

 

What noted big left hookers did Holmes meet apart from cooney?

 

Holmes dealt with single punches from Mercer, McCall.

Morrison never stopped a top 10 rated Heavyweight.

Which shows he may have power but the not ability to land consistently on better opponents.

Also Holmes's weakness was right hands not left hooks and Morrison doesn't have a game changing right hand.

If Morrison was a noted right hand puncher I'd give him more of a chance but he isn't.
