Fury on points the most likely. We will find out who is the actual boxer with the gorilla reach and it's not Liston.

 

A very difficult question for me, a below-average connoisseur of boxing. Prime Liston is also a Beast. The Liston we saw against Ali was not Prime Liston. Fury would not have a reach advantage, and Liston would have a job advantage. Fury wins one fight, Liston wins one fight; third fight - draw.

 

I think Liston beats Fury in a similar but.more definitive manner than Usyk. Busier, lands more hurtful shots, likely marks Fury up. I think that although he is physically smaller he had a physicality beyond his size and I don't know how Fury would react to the constant physical and mental pressure the best Liston would bring to the fight..I think Liston wins all three fights but being ultra critical, Liston likely wins fight one comfortably, Fury who above all had a very good boxing brain downloads what he needs to do and edges fight two. For fight three, Fury believes he can 'Wilder 2' Liston and wants a definitive victory but comes unstuck somewhere around the ninth. Neither the ropes nor the ref save him this time...

Fury too big too strong much like DDD would’ve been for louis.

 

I know some will think Fury because he attempts a poor man’s Ali imitation this ain’t it. This tactic may work with super slow overweight HWs but it’s a disaster against Liston. He’s gonna cut him off and work him to death. Fury was baffled by Usyks work rate and if Usyk had real power he would have knocked him out. Liston would knock him out and prob within 8.

 

Tyson Fury would soil his trunks both ways to see prime Sonny Liston standing in front of him.

 

No trilogy. Fury wins by UD the first 2 fights. Too big for Liston. Moves too well with good boxing ability.

 

Fury "might" pull out a close decision in one of the three fights--that's the best I can see him performing against late 50's Liston in a trilogy. (More likely he loses all 3--at least 2 by KO/stoppage.)

Yes Fury is so much bigger than Liston.This would determine the outcome of the fight.
Why look what happened when Fury fought the comparatively small Usyk......oh wait,
damn this is inconvenient.If it weren't a very helpful referee ( for dear old lovable Fury )
Usyk would have flattened him.

 

Agree, Liston was exceptional. Fury, unfortunately, is also exceptional, and he is massively larger, and knows how to use his size. Liston was used to fighting comparitive midgets. The moment the guys were significantly bigger than him like Ali and Williams, he had some difficulty. Not saying size is everything, but when you are looking to outbox the other guy, bigger dimensions are a big help.

 

Ali's advantage was his speed and Liston beat the s**t out of Williams twice without as much difficulty as conventional wisdom seems to recall.

 

I don't consider Fury to be exceptional that's where you and i differ.

Fury has shown way too many weaknesses to be considered exceptional.

Fury arguably lost to an MMA fighter and had no Plan B when he couldn't make Ngannou fall for his feints or when he couldn't outmuscle Ngannou in clinches.

Fury almost lost to the very mediocre Wallin.

Fury has been floored 8 times in his career despite not fighting that many top 10 ranked Heavyweights.

Fury is good but not exceptional atleast in my view.

And whilst you're right that Liston isn't used to fighting against bigger Super Heavyweights.

It also has to be said that historically Fury has struggled against smaller Heavyweights aswell.

Usyk, Cunningham, the latter only weighed 210 pounds and was a former Cruiserweight moving up in weight who was 1-3 in his last 4 fights.
