Two guys that I really enjoyed watching during that time frame. I love the style of Lopez and the way he approached fights and the way he executed his attacks. I was a big Gonzalez fan, saw him fight more than once live, and saw him spar several times. I think that Lopez would have beat him. Gonzalez was a very strong fighter and could punch very well; he could also box very well and was a very smart guy. Carbajal will verify that. Problem was, he didn't always use his intelligence. In the fights that he lost he came out fast and was successful early but took too many counters, got cut and gassed, then got stopped when he slowed down. In the Pascua fight and, I believe, through the first Carbajal fight, he was not with Nacho and his conditioning suffered and he struggled with weight. Maybe this fight would come down to whether or not Lopez would survive the early attack of Gonzalez and I think that he would. He moved well and fought southpaws very, very well. Lopez can certainly hurt Gonzalez. You can argue that he didn't hit as hard as Carbajal, but you can also argue that he was much better at setting up punches and landing them when the other guy wasn't expecting to get hit. An interesting wrinkle would be if Gonzalez came to box like he did in the second and third fights with Carbajal.
