...isn't the argument for AJ having a better resume is that be beat more ranked opponents? You can't have it both ways.

Ring rankings and ABC rankings don't carry the same weight. You know that already.

They tend to overlap though, and AJ has benefited from fighting people ranked in the ABCs as much as anyone else.

I don't rate a lot of wins of Wilders particularly high myself, but we should at least be consistent.

I've always praised his toughness and self belief. He'll fight until he has nothing left to give.

It's a good, thought provoking post. But ultimately you can boil it down to this ... he was a one trick pony. At least in his main arsenal. And that's not to denigrate Wilder. He was very good at delivering his main weapon. But it was only ever gonna take him so far.

Sure the Ring rankings and ABC rankings will share some of the same boxers, but that doesn't make them equal. That's not an inconsistency either when comparing Wilders ranked opponents to AJ's. That's called context.

If you choose to ignore the WBC ratings, the WBO ratings, the IBF ratings, the WBA ratings when it suits you, and you choose to ignore the Ring ratings when it suits you, that's your choice.

But when you do that, you're expressing an opinion. Not stating fact.

If you choose to simply accept facts and accept the actual ratings of the sanctioning bodies that run the sport, as well as the ratings by Ring, Deontay Wilder has fought a world-ranked heavyweight in 17 of his last 18 fights over the past 11 years.

I don't know why that pisses you guys off so much. But it's true.

I never saw so many people bend over backwards day in and day out trying to take away wins over ranked fighters from this guy.

If they were ranked by one of the sanctioning bodies, and he beat them, they were ranked contenders. If he beat them and they were ranked by Ring, they were ranked contenders.

Just like it's the case for every other fighter.

    It's that simple.

STFU already with this nonsensical attempt at logic.

All I said was the ABC and Ring rankings are not the same, and the Ring has generally been held to a high standard. Is that statement false, or is reading comprehension just a major issue for you?

Did I try to take away any of Wilders 'ranked' wins? Feel free to quote it genius...

And statistically speaking that confidence was warranted. When observing a Fabio Wardley the lesson one should have been taking away is what a special talent Wilder was.

Ring rankings can be flawed as well (at least i think the current ones are).

Like I get where you're coming from, but I feel that people are very quick to pick and choose when and what rankings they rate. They either matter or they don't.

Great confidence against lesser opponents. Stepped up and all the sudden confidence is gone.

Well i am a British fan, and Wilder certainly has not got and does not get hate from me.

As an amateur was Golden Gloves champion, US National champion, Olympic bronze medallist and of course as a pro was WBC champion for 5 years defending the title 11 times, that is not a bad record on his resume.

Were the fighters he defended WBC title against ATGs? No, but that can be said for many world heavyweight champions challengers.

Wilders right hand was a real game changer, his quote of “They have to be perfect for 12 rounds, I only have to be perfect for 2 seconds.” summed up why folk watched his bouts.

That big right hand earned him the title and a sound bank balance.

The thing with the Rings mistakes is they are usually in the name of validating bad decisions other ABCs have made. If theres a weak ABC champ the Ring will take that title at face value. They won't just overrate that champ but their opponents which sets off a chain reaction of circular logic.

If an ABC crowns an unworthy champ the Ring doesn't seem to be willing to be the messenger arguing that. Whatever your opinion of a champion they will always be yay and never be nah.

I'm always looking at Ring's and other independent rankings, as they have much more value than alphabet garbage. However, alphabet rankings may be a back up if, f.e. a fighter is ranked in all or majority of them.
