Did the "fan man" help Holyfield in his rematch with Bowe?

Stats like this make me question compubox a bit. But of course it's subjective like general scoring really.

 

IMO, it brought him even closer to God.

 

Sure. We should never take these stats as a bible or something, but it broadens the perspective.

 

I like to think so.

 

Ahh yes he should have had a good ball busting every training session.

Round 5; Big round for Holyfield, he hurts Bowe with a right hand late in the round

Round 6: Another good round for Holyfield, although Bowe does land a nice shot late in the round.

Round 7: There was a good exchange early on, then Bowe controlled the round with his jab before Fan Man. He was pretty much landing the jab non-stop.

So maybe Bowe was turning things around from the previous 2 rounds, or maybe it was just temporary.

 

Probably affected his rhythm to a point.

 

It is really quite surprising that Eddie futch, with all his experience, neglected to prepare for such a thing. he had been training fighters for decades and, before airplanes, fan men were very common.

Bowe should've won the fight.

Holyfield performed better in the rematch, as he was nearly stopped in the first fight a couple times.

But Bowe threw 100 more punches than Evander and Bowe landed 100 more punches than Evander.

Bowe and Newman rubbed a lot of people in the sport the wrong way while Bowe was champ. The judges seemed to vote with their heart in the return.

I don't know of any other fight in heavyweight boxing history where the defending champion threw 100 more punches than his challenger and landed 100 more punches than his challenger, was never knocked down, and still lost his title.

It was just a bad decision. The Fan Man causing such a long delay certainly didn't help matters.

 

They never evened out, though.

After 12 rounds, if you throw triple digits more than your challenger and LAND triple digits more than your challenger, a champ has always won ... except that night.

 

Bowe had a 89-33 edge in punches landed after 3 rounds so the big difference in punches landed were in the first 3 rounds.

That's why you can't judge a fight on punchstats because Bowe had bigger edges in punches landed in the rounds he won.

But Holyfield still could've won more rounds overall with less bigger edges in punches landed in the rounds he won.

I think the decision was fair and the rounds were quite easy to score IMO except the 7th round which had to be restarted.

 

Bowe threw 100 more punches and landed 100 more punches in the fight.

If Bowe landed 89 to Evander's 33 in the first three rounds ... then Bowe had a three-round advantage with nine rounds to go.

And, over those nine rounds, Bowe STILL threw more and OUTLANDED HOLYFIELD.

Bowe outlanded his challenger 264 punches to 220 punches over the last nine rounds, to be exact.

And Bowe was the defending champ.

I admit, Holyfield did better than he did in fight one.

But Bowe still threw far more and landed far more ... EVEN over the final nine rounds, when he was already up three.

Bowe only needed to win three rounds out of the final NINE to retain the title. Which I thought he did.
