I’ll support this one. He’s been posting shirtless workout vids. He’s very much in shape. Definitely not as lean as he once was, but it’s irrelevant. He’s like 12% BF now instead of the 6% he once was. Still very much in shape.

and as we have seen with successful older heavyweights, it’s better when they go off how they feel and perform and not how they look. Both old Foreman and old Holmes said they’d tried dieting down, felt and performed like ****, and gave up caring what they looked like.

 

Yeah, we've already got YouTubers trying to make a buck off claiming Usyk is on a huge decline, out-of-shape, and clearly hasn't trained for Rico. It's absurd. Kinda crazy how a dude who supposedly is on the decline keeps putting in better performances. Beat Fury better the 2nd time around. Knocked out Diglett quicker in the rematch while hardly getting touched.

Wild how a declining fighter who is slacking off can turn in performances like that. /s

Usyk is definitely a bit slower and moving much less than he did back when he was fighting AJ. However, why would he keep up that insane level of movement if he doesn't have to? If you can starch these HWs while moving less that's just more efficient. It's a huge waste of energy to be bobbing and weaving around like a crazy person when you can just stand in front of them, slip, counter, and beat them up. Usyk has just adapted to the division and realized he can bang these guys out by being a little heavier and moving a little less. He still moves better/more than anyone else in the division, too, by the way.

And any idea that he's not taking this fight seriously and isn't in shape is laughable. This dude is a psycho about training/preparing for fights. Been that way his whole career and it's why he's gotten to where he has in the sport. He's got the best S&C coaches money can buy and they track everything on Usyk from his heart rate, to his BP, to his electrolytes, to his sleep cycles, to his VO2Max, etc. If Usyk is coming in heavier it's because it's a calculated decision by him and his team.

I vaguely remember Usyk saying some time ago that he had trouble keeping the weight on for heavyweight. Maybe being a bit heavier now is a psychological aspect for him, where he doesn't have to worry about that thought anymore. Or maybe he's just getting athletic dad bod.

 

It is really interesting that all of a sudden, this fight has a narrative.
