I understand it's for the HW championship and the bell was near, but still. You take a shot like that and go down the way Verhoeven did, you're on a thin line of borrowed time credit and if you start eating more consecutive shots lots of refs are going to jump in.

Commentary saying it's "terrible" is just face-saving after them asking like the miracle upset was inevitable. That was an "okay" stoppage. Many refs would've let it go, and some would not.

 

The bell had gone, ridiculous stoppage.

 

This is ****ing disgusting, Rico Verhoeven has just been robbed of the WBC and lineal heavyweight championship

 

Ooof, that was dirty. 5 seconds or less left in the round and you call it off? Rico literally threw a punch as the ref stepped in!

 

Spat his gum shield out to buy more time and was wobbling.

 

Peter Fury taught Rico some dirty tricks, like spitting out the mouthpiece and fumbling to put it back in to give Rico time to recover.

Poetic justice. Let's give Usyk credit for that beautiful uppercut that knocked down the tough as nails Verhoeven.

Yes Usyk probably would have finished him in the last round but give the guy a chance he fought his heart out.

 

They talking rematch? ffs but Rico probably deserves it after that effort, but Kabayel should go SUPER SAIYAN if that happens

Time to call it a day for Usyk but fair play to Rico, amazing performance from him.

 

Number 1, Usyk wasn’t down on the cards no matter what the commentators and their ridiculous ringside expert was saying
Number 2, Usyk knew from Rd 4 that as soon as he wanted to he could land the shots that would stop Verhoeven.

People can be disappointed all they want!

 

Rico would be knocked brutally by the first top 15 puncher he fights, but I'm such an enormous fan of the man from now on. What a heart, what a character.

 

If rico played it safe in the 11th and just jabbed and grabbed, he'd have been likely to win the fight lol.

Horrible stoppage as well.
