No, and this is why I quit watching boxing. Just saw someone on Youtube showing this fight from a pub. Quickly went to Youtube when I saw the RBR and him losing the fight.
I suppose it has Chavez-Taylor vibes; the referee is not the timekeeper, but we have seen so many times in the past the referee taking the time left in the round into account. I would like to see a rematch to settle all controversy.
Definitely not a fair stoppage. I'm 99% sure Rico was on his way to getting knocked out, but the stoppage was BS
I didn't like the stoppage but Rico's gumshield had come out twice when he was hurt, saving himself from damage/potentially being dropped again/KO'd. And Usyk may well have stopped him in the 12th.
24 votes and 100% still we know how this will turn out. The stoppage was up there with the worst, the guy was hurt but what about everything else, if you stopped a fight every time a fighter is hurt, the sport would not be what it is. You can say he might have saved Verhoeven's life, yes, he also sort of ruined it by denying him the chance to be great for that 12th round. There's a balance and the referee here was a **** and didn't do his job properly, i commend him for actually stepping in and trying to protect the fighter, that's very important but he also cannot wrap his arms around a fighter when he is hurt but still capable. It was an incompetent stoppage.
Rico was not defending himself properly...His gas tank was on empty. It's the referees job to look out for the fighter's safety. It was a fair stoppage imo.
I mean if he was British the ref would have been helping him back to the corner. Contrast his stoppage with Wardley.
