If a ref sees a fighter is out on their feet—even if they haven't fallen to the canvas—they will step in immediately and wave off the fight to prevent unnecessary and catastrophic damage. This is ruled a Technical Knockout (TKO).

There are many examples where a fighter being out on their feet does not mean the ref will stop the fight and instead let there be a more definitive ending to the fight. Tonight was one such example.

standing knockout. The fighter's conscious brain has shut off entirely from the trauma. For all intents and purposes, they are knocked out; gravity and muscle memory just haven't caught up yet to pull them to the canvas. It is not daze or stun you moron

It's not a standing knockout, it's out on his feet. Two very different things.

Wtf are you talking about bro? I expected Usyk to KO this clown in 2 rounds. Instead he lost 9-2 and got saved by a bs stoppage.

He disgraced the sport of boxing tonight. That is all.

 

All right guys, this is a personal thought. Yes the fight today was controversial, as have been many, many fights before. Imagine Rico Verhoeven, technically undisputed, linear heavyweight champion of the world right now. That could have happened. And the sports and boxing media would have been in an uproar, "UPSET OF THE CENTURY", and what not. And the boxing "royal" lineage would have been spoiled because this outsider who kicks people for a living instead of doing the gentlemanly thing and just punching them with his fists would be in a line with all the Greats. Sullivan, Dempsey, Marciano, Ali, Holmes, etc. etc. But would you really care for more than a month? Till his first defense, which he might win, might lose, maybe devastatingly so to Usyk in a rematch? I sometimes feel that as grown men we still watch boxing with the same fascination as some of us watched Pro Wrestling as kids. Larger than life figures, super heroes even. But at the end of the day all these dudes are fallible, no matter how long they maintain their discipline and natural gifts. At the end of the day it's just two guys having a fight. And that is sometimes 90-10, sometimes 10-90, but realistically always 50-50. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to leave this here and ignore at your leisure of course.
