The Battle of the Upsetters: Max Schmeling vs Corrie Sanders

It’s not that hard to predict. Sanders would blow him out of the water.

 

If Joe Louis, a far more skilled boxer both defensively and offensively than sanders couldn’t figure out max in the first fight, then Corrie doesn’t stand much of a chance.

 

Sanders finds a big shot and lets his hands go for a TKO before 5 most likely. Not only did he hit hard, he had very fast hands and was tough. Schmeling gets blitzed. I don't see Max being able to hurt Corrie.

Sanders starts strong, fades and gets figured out. Likely KOd too.

 

Sanders overpowered or dominated numerous cruserweight champions, which is what Schelling is at best. Then there's Sanders southpaw angles and blinding speed and power. I love Schmelling but it's illogical and unscientific to pick him here.

 

In a battle between two men who scored a big upset, I tend to ask what they both did outside of their upset.

Sanders basically only has one good win, while Schmeling would be a remarkable fighter today, even without the Louis win.

Don't get me wrong, I am genuinely surprised that Sanders didn't have a much better career, but I have to go with Schmeling.

 

Max was a terrific fighter but probably not defensively sound enough to survive the early rounds with the bigger faster handed harder hitting Sanders. I think Sanders stops him early.

That being said, i do not rule out Schmeling surviving and taking over and stopping Sanders late.

 

Max doesn’t strike me as someone who would adapt well to fighting a very powerful 6’4 230 pound southpaw with hands as fast as Sanders’.

We get a repeat of the Baer fight, with a quicker ending.

 

Good Lord, Max is head and shoulders above Sanders

 

Sanders is way too big for Schmeling. Remember how Schmeling was embarrassed by Baer this will be at least as bad.

 

Jesus Christ people, if this fight actually happened nobody in their right minds would put a plugged nickel on Schmeling. Sanders was a brutal body puncher and Schmeling's hunched over style would be grist for Sanders' mill. Moreover Sanders had a nasty right uppercut which is just the punch to slice through that sort of guard. Max is going to get brutalized here; I absolutely guarantee that Sanders hits much harder than Baer, who was ponderous looking at the best of times.

 

I think Max is a legit all time great and find it disappointing that's he's disappeared off so many lists of the all time top ten heavyweights in history.

That said, of the old timers, I do question how well he'd do against the much larger heavyweights.

I generally feel that the super heavyweights in modern eras are overrated and an ideal heavyweight is in the 200 to 230 weight range.

But, Max is one example that maybe is more suited to fighting cruiserweight if he were around today.

 

How would you see Corrie Sanders versus, say, Nate Tubbs going?

Because one of my rules when picking fights is never pick the guy who got KTFO by Nate Tubbs.
