Rico Verhoeven will get wiped out by the next decent HW he faces

If we hadn’t seen the contrast of how Joshua dealt with Ngannou compared to how Fury struggled, would we still reckon he gets face planted by a different opponent? If we take that fight by itself we wouldn’t expect that to necessarily occur. I think it’s a case by case basis because we have only seen him fight one particular style and Usyk’s style is one of a kind in many respects.

 

I can easily see him getting wiped out in another boxing fight

Last night he gave everything but I don't see him repeating it

If he does, credit where credit is due and I'll happily admit I was wrong

 

It depends on who he fights.

Rico fought a great style and implemented a great fight plan to offset Usyk, nullify his feints and movement, and bully and crowd him on the inside. I'd expect these tactics to work against an old Fury, too. Could these tactics work as effectively against Kabayel or an in shape (relatively) Bakole? Probably not.

I'm interested to see Rico fight again, though. He showed a lot of good traits, but he did make mistakes (to be expected given his relative inexperience in pro boxing fights). I'd be interested to see how fights going forward. Will he employ the same tactics of giving away his height and reach, or was that a style he employed just for Usyk?

He's certainly an interesting addition to the HW scene, if he chooses to stick around.

 

Yes, boxing over everything. I am a boxing fan and the fight was supposed ala Mayweather vs McGregor. Usyk was supposed to toy with him and then stop him after he got bored because thats how a boxing grand master is supposed to treat someone with 1 pro boxing fight.

It will be satisfying for someone to actually take Verhoeven seriously, destroy him like they are supposed to and not embarrass us again like Usyk and Fury.

 

He looked a handful in there to me, awkward as, didn't stop moving and he's a massive very strong unit, I dont think many current fighters wipe him out easily!

 

Isnt the fault really on the boxers for taking what are supposed to be soft touch fights instead of the fights people asked for? and on the sport in general for allowing guys with little or no boxing experience to walk straight into these fights?

 

ay all i know is i'd be interested to see him keep competing. sure they'd be some bad style match ups for him but would be good see what he could achieve.

 

Why do some think Usyk didn’t take him seriously? Sure his threat perception was probably a little off but if there’s any fighter who will take even a postman seriously it’s Usyk. It wasn’t a competitive fight because Usyk sunbathed on the beach most of the camp, I think that is one of the lowest contributing factors. We saw a highly skilled fight, if he was a bum then we wouldn’t have seen what we saw, he was clearly a talented boxer.

 

It depends whether his next fight is against a top 5 or a top 15-20 who is also more stylistically favourable.
