Once again, boxing’s corruption is on full display. Usyk was saved by the referee yet again. The first time was when Dubois dropped him with what looked like a legitimate body shot on the belt line, only for the ref to step in and bail him out. And now, with the latest controversy involving Verhoeven being robbed, it feels like the WBC-appointed referee was searching for any excuse to swing the fight in Usyk’s favour and boy, he didn’t hesitate to take it!

Ironically, Usyk himself was arguably robbed of a knockout in his first fight with Fury, when the referee could have stopped the fight but instead gave Fury a count. You genuinely couldn’t make this stuff up. Boxing has become a complete joke, especially whenever the WBC is involved.

At this point, I’m firmly in the Zuffa camp let them shake everything up, even if it burns the whole system down. The sport in its current state deserves to collapse. I’m done with it.

"Usyk was saved by the referee yet again"

What are you talking about? How could the referee save Usyk when two judges had it tied at the time of the stoppage, and one had Rico ahead? Usyk won round 10, very clearly won round 11 by two points, and 99% would have won round 12 as well because Rico was seriously shaken and already very tired (he was staggering). He would have won the entire fight.

The referee's stoppage hurt both Verhoven and Usyk equally. If it weren't for the stoppage, he probably would have clearly marked his victory in the final round, and who knows, maybe even knocked him out hard, ending any discussion. Moreover, with such stoppages, the "victim" usually walks away with a huge credit from the fans, and perhaps it would have been better than if he had fallen unconscious in round 12.

The commentators' narrative and Coppinger's scoring were greatly exaggerated in favor of the underdog, and many people were fooled into thinking Usyk was getting some kind of boxing lesson and was helpless. I recommend checking out the punch statistics and the bruises and bruises on Rico's face. It was a close fight, with Usyk starting to gain a significant advantage towards the end (hence the heavy knockdown and the stoppage win).

Let's not get carried away by extreme judgments, as the fan theories about Rico being crowned "Usyk isn't that strong after all" or the claims that this Era is generally weak and that's the only reason Usyk achieved what he did.

I watched the fight again. Usyk was terrible last night. Seemed he didn't want to be there, barely threw anything.

I fully agree with the fact that Verhoeven still had enough to see the 12th and ref can decide in that round whether he’s fit to go on. Some will disagree and think it’s a good stoppage. I disagree that the ref saved him against Dubois. The shot was at minimum in the danger zone when you see the replay, the angle of the punch goes right in that direction. You can make a case for or against it by looking at it, everybody agrees it’s close either way, only Usyk knows. The ref decided to give him the time which the rule permits. The fight resumed. Dubois had several rounds to continue fighting. He didn’t get up from a stiff jab. That’s his decision. He had a rematch and had zero success to the body or head. His entire method of dealing with that loss was ignoring what happened besides the low blow and focused entirely on that as the reason why he lost.

I am not a Usyk guy. I like him and I think he is the best heavyweight right now and has been for a while.
But to me, the whole Dubois belt thing is just a non issue anymore. We saw what happeend the 2nd time so we probably know by now that it woudln't have changed anything.

But I do find it weird how people talk about usyk like some god, when he cries to the referee a lot about getting hit on the belt. He did the same thing against AJ. I mean Golota played ping pong with Bowes ding dong and it took quite a bit to get him down

You either retire a hero or you fight long enough to become the villain half the forum seems to be saying.

If you're hoping that Zuffa might ride in like some white knight to clean house, well, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Boxing doesn’t get cleaned up, it just changes hands.

They demand fighters wear ZUFFA uniforms they can **** off from the sport just by that infraction alone.

This is stupid. The establishment hates Usyk because they can't make money off of a Ukrainina. If there was corruption, it was giving Rico the extra recovery time.
