Is it time to admit the talent in the heavyweight division is... bad?

Usyk is the best heavyweight.. skillwise, but his size leaves a lot of openings for big clumsy guys to bully him. He almost lost to a 1-0 boxer.

Tyson Fury the guy who uppercut himself in the face on live tv has been 'the best' heavyweight from 2015-2023 and he basically lost to a MMA fighter on his pro debut.

Fabio Wardley is basically a white collar guy and he has a win over Parker, Clarke and Hunis

Joshua went 6 rounds with an undersized YouTuber.

Dubois is a big stiff idiot, just a strong guy with a decent jab basically.

I'm starting to think guys like Prime Bowe and Lewis would absolutely steam roll this era. Imagine big George Foreman in there?

Ngannou and Rico are big, strong, athletic tough guys and that was enough to compete on even terms. All these 30-0 records obviously count for nothing when 20+ of them are filler garbage vs bums.

Usyk is practically 40, of course a prime Bowe or Lewis is going to beat a 40 year old fighter lol.

Regardless though, comparing generations is stupid, every fighter has their difficult style. Usyk struggles with getting swarmed and bullied by larger men, because he's not a big heavy weight. Chisora looked harder for Usyk than Joshua did at points, because Usyk just isn't a physical guy. Bowe struggled very very hard against Golota, Lewis lost to McCall and Rahman. Every great fighter has struggled with a lesser opponent.

Take off your rose coloured glasses and you'll see it's honestly not that different nowadays talent wise. It's just that the talent has gone international, so there's far less hype when big names fight.

I do agree that prime Riddick Bowe would have beaten prime Usyk!

In that the best, including Usyk, are getting really old, yes.

Age isn't a thing anymore apparently.

Guess who else is 39 right now? Usain Bolt. I'll bet an 18 year old runner from Australia called Gout Gout can currently outrun him. So we may as well just admit that he is bad.

No Fury, AJ and Usyk just pulled a VERY successful scam.

Fury got beat up by an MMA fighter and they had to rob Ngannou on the cards. Joshua took 6 rounds to knockout a 215 pound Youtuber. Usyk gets outboxed for 11 rounds by a kickboxer.

Djokovic is almost 40 and clearly the number 3 in tennis which is a gruelling sport, boxing is the ultimate test but we can appreciate what it takes to compete in other sports. He can still beat the top 2 sometimes with the right circumstances. Longevity is an amazing quality in an athlete. Usyk is still held to a standard as if he is an ageless being, it's understandable if he is losing some of his athletic range. It's insane what an athlete has to do to remain elite as they get into the later stages.
