Canelo was 36-0 before he fought a top 10 guy. His record vs top 10 fighters is actually 5-2-1. People act like those 36 wins actually mean a lot, when lots were just cannon fodder. This is where the Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou and Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven fights have shown me a lot, when you break it down. Fury's record vs top 10 guys becomes 3 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw vs Ngannou's 0-0. Ngannou skipping the 20 + bums he probably could have KOed too and went straight for the big fight.
With that logic, we should just have everybody fight for a title when they make they're pro debut. The heck with learning how to fight different styles, hone their craft, etc. The heck with all that, it's just a waste of time I suppose....
MMA fighters are fighting for the title after a handful of fights. Alex Pereira is the king of 205 lbs and maybe soon heavyweight and he's only 13-3
I would like there to be way to incorporate everything. Read their boxing record, but also read MMA, kickboxing, amateur, alternate striking martial art, or alternate boxing (BKPB, misfits, IBA, WSB) if they wish as some kind of official supplemental. This would benefit even Usyk, as his WSB fights and stellar amateur career would be counted. To some degree this is done now on a mention, but take the time to read out the actual records rather than just a mention.
Ngannou and Rico had "traditional records" in other sports and Rademacher, Leon Spinks and friends had traditional records in amateur boxing. There was still a substitute for those records that led to them getting that opportunity. Whether it's right or wrong that substitute was "traded in". If you take that away you're just dragging a random dude off the street.

Chavez had a padded record in the early part of his career. But he also has alot of quality on his resume aswell. He holds the record for having 31 world title wins. He's not overrated at all.
I don't think we've ever agreed on a single thing on any topic I just find you very frustrating to converse with. He was a very active fighter it's alot different to today's era. Chavez was on a average fighting 3 world title fights a year whilst on fighting 5 fights a year on average. You criticise a fighter for actively defending his world title numerous times and staying active. I just don't understand boxing fans anymore. Apparently staying active as a champion and winning 31 title fights means you're overrated Baffling.
