Usyk is cooked, Furys gypsy curse has finally landed on him. The only way to escape a cruel fate is to defeat Fury a third time and retire.

He shouldn't be putting his efforts into training a bodybuilder mental midget for Fury. It's like training a turtle to outrun a cheetah, it can't be done.

 

Sergei Lapin's dad was the boxing coach at the first boxing gym Usyk ever went to when he was a 15 year old. He and Lapin became friends. Sergei has been on his team in some capacity for Usyk's entire career. Lapin's younger brother Daniel is that goofy looking, awful boxer who got stopped on Saturday by the French fella.

Sergei has slowly taken over Usyk's entire operation while pushing a lot of the old guard out like Alex Krassyuk, Egis Klimas, and Usyk's coach Yuri. Most people who meet Sergei say he's a greedy POS and that he's surrounding Usyk with yes men and trying to keep as much money as he can for himself.

Just rumors and whatnot so take it all with a grain of salt.

 

So who is Usyk s trainer now?

 

Some much younger guy named Iegor who is also supposedly training AJ.

Yeah, he has achieved it all and I honestly think the only fights that are appealing to him now are fighters with big names rather than upcoming contenders. I think that's why he has entertained the Wilder fight in recent times. Kabayel, Wardley, Itauma... they are the next era. He knows the time to pass the torch is just around the corner. And while it's not one the fans want to see, and it might not be particularly competitive (although boxing continues to show us all that we seem to know nothing), it's probably a fight on his personal bucket list, as Wilder is from his era and the only one he hasn't ticked off.

Apart from the money, probably why he accepted the Verhoeven fight too. Verhoeven is one of the greatest kickboxers of all time, arguably the greatest heavyweight kickboxer of all time, and a living legend of combat sports. I think these are the type of fights that interest him now. If that's the case though, I agree he needs to drop the belts.
