JUGGERNAUT:a huge, powerful overwhelming force or institution. The true definition of the word. FITS LISTON PERFECTLY!
What makes you think Tyson hit harder than Williams? Most common opponents (and Liston himself) say Williams hit harder than Liston. Liston also hit harder than young Foreman (who himself says Williams hit harder than Liston) per all common opponent. Not 1 common opponent of Foreman and Tyson say Tyson hit harder. Not one. And this was an OLDER Foreman who'd lost a good amount of speed, power, and explosiveness. So it goes like this Williams>Liston>Young Foreman>Old Foreman>Tyson.
Peak Tyson vs peak Liston--have to go with Liston. Tyson would have to come to Sonny, and Liston would maintain distance with that sledgehammer left jab. Sonny was stronger than Mike and had an even harder punch. He was also superior technically. Eventually, Sonny lands a power shot or two and goes in for the kill! KO or stoppage for Liston in roughly 8 rounds. One critical note: a significant edge that Tyson always had during his peak years was the intimidation factor. Fighters that faced Mike in his prime were often mentally defeated before the opening bell. That would NOT be the case here--if anything it would be the other way around--Liston had intimidation down to a science!!
The Ring Magazine just did a 8 page mythical matchup feature between Liston and Tyson in their May 2026 issue.
First 4-5 rounds would be Brutal for Liston since Tyson is punching almost just as hard as Liston and is lightning fast but as 5 rounds would pass Liston would start to prevail and stop Mike in 10th or 11th round same way Douglas did. But trust me, the first 4-5 rounds if we are talking about Mike that destroyed Spinks and Holmes, Liston would take helluva beating.
Tyson TKO7 Liston Liston doesn't have anything Tyson hadn't seen and wasn't training heavily to overcome. Liston had power in spades but was slow. And while we're on that subject speed befuddled him. Ali absolutely mopped him up in both bouts. The closest we've seen to a Liston-Tyson bout would be Tyson's classic against Pinklon Thomas. And throw out the Liston-Patterson slaughterings because Patterson couldn't burst a bubble compared to Tyson. Also Tyson was heavier than Liston, had a better chin, better defense and to be honest more weapons in his arsenal. Man how many times have I written this exact scenario for this battle before?
Mike beat both of them though. Tyson explosive attack made those two bigger heavyweights to go into survival mode for 15 rounds. They both came to win but plans changed once they felt Tyson's power.
I have to agree with this. I can't believe I'm saying this but Tyson is actually becoming underrated H2H, especially on here. There's absolutely nothing Liston does that Tyson wouldn't be able to deal with.
