More controversial: Usyk vs Dubois 1 “low blow” or Usyk vs Verhoeven “stoppage”?

Your opinion doesn't matter. It was a low blow according to the rules.

This shot was below the belly button and the highlights clearly show it, so it was a low blow.

I just got around to watching the Rico fight and I’m not surprised that there’s so much outrage. In the sense that I’m never surprised on how such a huge percentage of people that watched the fight can have such a bad take.

I rarely watch boxing now, it’s a circus and have got much more into MMA, but this guy didn’t throw a punch after having 25+ seconds to recover from the knockdown.

Maybe a LITTLE early if you’re being super critical and the main argument seems to be what, he was up on the scorecards or there was a second left on the clock.

In an actual conversation between two people and not a few back and forth forum posts on the internet took place. All I have to do is confidently say is that he was knocked down, had 25+ seconds to recover and he didn’t throw a punch while eating 10 unanswered to the face. The ref has no choice.

What can you actually say to disprove that? Well, you can’t, you can make an argument against it, but that is the reality.

‘There was only 1 second left in the round’
Ok, but he just took 10 straight punches after being knocked down and wasn’t defending himself.

Just my two cents on the matter

I said I'm not debating it. My opinion which can't be changed with all the evidence. Also a really nice punch by my standards because it's not common.

Shame the same dodgy referees even called AJ's clean legal bodywork on Usyk low at times giving him a verbal warning which is a farce...I wonder if it's because of a house ref...it is.

It's called delusion, not an opinion.

At the time I was one of the ones harping on about it being a legit body shot and even made a thread about it and I was absolutely convinced.

Maybe a knee jerk reaction ? Maybe a bit of shock at the time seeing Usyk on the floor for such a long period ?

Looking back at it yes it was technically low according to the rules.

But I still don't think the punch was super low in regards to hitting Usyk in his crown jewels.

Usyk's trunks were a little high and for me part of the glove landed on the belly button and the other part was below the belly button.

Low according to the rules ? Yes but I've seen similar type of borderline shots been allowed in fights.

A fight i watched a week ago Ali vs Chuvalo 1.

And Ali was taking similar borderline body shots from Chuvalo all night long in their 1st fight and those shots were allowed.

It was a bit low IMO agreed.

But it's also true some referees from past era's wouldn't have called it low. I feel they keep tabs on that more with modern fights.

Agreed and it also depends on how biased the referee is aswell.

If you see Ward vs Kovalev 2 for example.

1 or 2 punches prior to the stoppage definitely hit Kovalev in his crown jewels and the referee did nothing about it.

I still think Ward would've won anyway but the ending did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Especially after the 1st fight in what many deem as a highly controversial decision.

Actually, it wasn’t. It was a low blow in the opinion of the referee. If he had not called it, then it wasn’t a low blow based on his interpretation.Like I said at the beginning of my post, I thought it was a 50-50 call so no argument with anyone who thinks it was a low blow.

Did he hit him in the balls and dick? No...

Usyk didn't even react like he got it in the balls. He reacted how most would after a good old belly shot which is going borderline unlike the very legal plexus shot. Floyd spent his entire career jabbing at this area.

He didn't need to hit him in the balls. Everything below navel is a low blow, including the bladder area that Usyk got hit to.

Nope. The rules are the rules. If the blow is legal and ref calls it legal, he did a good job. If the shot is low according to the rules and ref calls it legal, then he did a shyte job. Of course, what ref says goes, but it doesn't mean that he defines what a low blow is.

A lot of refs would not have called that a low blow. It was that close. Let's face it.
