Murat Gassiev vs Tony Yoka, 11th of July

I dont know, they let Bakole, Takam and Methy walk away with decisions. Almost robbed them, but didn´t. Its kinda funny how Yoka got a MD and two SD losses back to back, in fights that were not that close in reality. The judges almost gave it to him, but didn't.

 

This seems like a totally pointless fight if Gassiev has any plans to do anything at heavyweight

 

I was looking forward to Yoka-Okolie. Seems like Yoka may get a shot without even beating Okolie.

If so, I think Yoka will "Otto Wallin" him.

Truth is, even with the favoritism show to Yoka by French officials, the Wallin-Gassiev fight wasn't even close. How Gassiev managed a split decision in that fight was ridiculous. And a nearly 50-year-old Pulev was easily outboxing him, too.

If Yoka can remain upright, that crappy, meaningless WBA 'regular' strap is his for the taking.

 

What has Gassiev ever done to demonstrate that he plans to "do anything" at heavyweight?

Seriously. He's been a pro for 15 years.

He didn't even try to avenge his loss to Wallin.

He's playing a waiting game. He's waited for the division to clear out. He snagged a "regular" belt against one of the oldest human beings to ever have a strap. Now, he'll wait for Usyk to retire hoping to inherit a full belt without fighting anyone else of note.

Yoka's probably faced better at heavyweight than Gassiev already.

Chin...I am not going to bump the thread yet again, but neither am I going to let you forget that I know the reason you dump on Gassiev is because you made that absurd thread claiming that the WBSS competition was weak, criticizing us all for "waiting for Usyk to be the savior the heavyweight division," or however you phrased it.

Since Usyk did indeed go on to be the savior of the heayweight division, and an ATG, and Briedis has retired after doing pretty well for himself as a three-time cruiser champ, you are attacking Gassiev instead.

Unfortunately, Gassiev is rebuilding himself after years of injuries and inactively. He is the WBA regular champ, and he is looking to have a good reign and fight the best.

Itauama has turned him down. That is a matter of record.

This is a decent fight for Gassiev, and sadly, probably the best he can get because he is Russian. But don't despair...HE'S ONLY 32!

He's got tons of time, and he already has a great cruiserweight record, and a path to getting a shot a being the real WBA heavyweight champ.

Hold his vodka and watch.

I got to go with Gassiev. Yoka is still living off his Olympic gold which is ten years ago now. Lost to ancient Takam three years ago, and from what I heard, got a gift of a decision against Arslan Yallyev last year (I know, who?)

Convincing win for Gassiev in my opinion, even this version. But my heavyweight predictions SUCK so...
