Why was Bonavena able to go the distance vs Frazier but not Quarry?

Considering Quarry was more skilled, how did this happen?

Perhaps what you call "skill" isn't as important as other factors.

    Bonavena had the tougher skin.

Because Bonavena was basically a strongman caveman, way more awkward and feral style and way more dangerous on the inside

I believe Frazier fought Bonavena in 1966 and 1968

I think he fought Quarry in 69 and 74.

Bonavena sounds like he may have had Italian blood. That's my theory. Those Eyeties are so damn tough.

Now, IF Quarry had been "Geraldo Quarrini", Frazier may have been in trouble.

Except of course the problem of the 'q'.

Boys there's seems to be a tendency here to underrate old Jerry Quarry, he was a good fighter.

The answer, as you probably are inferring with your question, is that they never fought. So this thread is specious.

How is this thread specious? I never said Quarry and Bonavena fought. I said that Quarry did not last the distance vs Joe Frazier but Bonavena did.

The question makes it sound like Bonavena was stopped by Quarry.

Oscar was much stronger, more durable, got hit less, had superior stamina and likely hit harder .. I have always liked and admired Quarry but the legend of him being the best to never win a title is absurd. He was skilled and matched up well against bigger, stronger and slower men but not against speed .. Frazier was no plodder like a Lyle or caught cold and raw like Shavers ...

That's how I interpreted it too.
