You missed his point wasn’t that he peaked late just that he lasted till he was in such a weak era he was among the top 3 in the division.

 

So at 38, he was worse than he was 25? I don't see any argument for that whatsoever; he'd just had a win - albeit controversial, meaning very close - over Ezzard Charles, and then performed incredibly admirably against Marciano. At 25/26, he was getting KOd by Simon and losing to Tiger Fox.

 

Rocky gets Jones on the ropes where he doesn’t want to be. Brutal KO finish. Maybe even a broken jaw for Roy.

 

No he was better when he fought Louis etc ,than when he fought Marciano.Marciano's style,or lack of it if you will ,flattered Walcott, and dovetailed into Walcott' s feints and walk away ploys.

Walcott didn't look that good in three of the fights with Charles.and he had lost 2 of his last 4 fights previous to defending against Marciano,[as had Charles] Jersey Joe hadn't suddenly found the "fountain of youth," he had an opponent whose negatives,poor balance,methodically slow foot work,so so defence, no jab , enabled him to shine,at least until he began to tire and seek momentary rests on the ropes.That's my take on it anyway.

The Marciano Fan Fiction is the only reason I stay on this board. It is endlessly hilarious.

 

When he was younger he went toe to toe w Joe Louis and was most likely given a bad decision loss. Before that he cleaned out the division even avenging losses. He was obviously a better fighter.

 

Why are people talking like Rocky isn't an attrition puncher? He's not knocking out literally anybody in one punch.

Also funnily enough I think Roy at 168lbs would be better for this fight, as he stepped into the ring over just over 180lbs anyway.
