Age: Joshua Both in their mid-late 30's, AJ is 14 months younger. Stylistic/attribute longevity: Joshua Joshua's style is based on punching power, Fury's is based on speed, stamina and recovery, which fade sooner. Also, Fury is now more dependent on the judges (who have historically been more biased towards Joshua) and the absence of a "British stoppage". Physical wear: Debatable, likely Joshua Fury has had a longer boxing career by almost 4 years, almost 100 more pro rounds and more hard fights. He's been far less disciplined in terms of training, food intake and recreational drug use. He hasn't scored a KD in his last 5 fights, since April 2022. But Joshua has been dropped ten times to Fury's eight and been KO'd twice in a pro ring to Fury's zero. We don't know how much Joshua has faded physically since September 2024, when Dubois gave him his most brutal career beating, followed by a car crash 15 months later where Joshua sustained what were reported to be "minor injuries". Mental wear: Likely Fury Joshua has four losses to Fury's two, KO losses are usually especially mentally damaging, and Joshua was involved in a car crash that killed two of his friends, posing a major psychological question which will not be answered until he's in the ring with a serious opponent. Level of opposition post-2024: Fury Joshua hasn't beaten a top 30 level opponent since late 2023 or early 2024, Fury did in April 2026. Imagine someone had said 9 years ago that Fury (years inactive, severely depressed, 30 stone, coke binge) would outlast full-athlete Joshua, everyone would have thought them delusional.
I think it favours Fury, like it always has, but the fact these two haven't fought yet is ridiculous.
Hard to say Fury right now only because he got a decent tune up fight in.... I think they are having trouble finding AJ a tune-up fight before Fury someone who can push him a little but not chin him... And I think they might have trouble finding Fury a 2nd tune up fight which he wants because it would make the AJ fight unloseable. I suspect AJ is going into the Fury fight raw without a tune up and Fury won't get his 2nd tune up. I think AJ has a fresher body but not fresh enough to overcome Fury's ability gap...but I think it will go the distance...at other points in Fury's career he could brutalize AJ but his wear and age is too high now to crumble AJ. Given Usyk has been jerking AJ off during his camps and then Usyk flopped against Rico they should just throw AJ in with Rico...but the crazy thing is I think they think that's too dangerous now. Which is crazy to think. I think Mudov and Rico are the perfect two tune-ups for each...but Eddie will protect AJ from Rico
Odds-wise, the fight is more of a 50-50 now than it has been for most or all of the last 6 years. I recall several months after Wilder 2 Fury being a 1/2 favourite over AJ, and prior to Chisora 3 Fury was a 1/4 favourite over AJ.
The car crash is the big unquantifiable X factor, there’s no telling how much that will affect AJ, so it’s hard to say overall. But otherwise, I would’ve said the timing slightly favours AJ, because the style clash is what always was going to decide the fight, and Fury’s style will age worse as it’s more reaction, speed, feint and jab based. Also AJ delaying the fight by another few months by taking on another tune up (Prenga) essentially forced Fury into taking one too (likely Hysa) when he made it clear he would’ve preferred AJ immediately after Makh - not a huge factor again but AJ has successfully dictated the timing of the fight.
I think Joshua, Fury relies more on movement, agility and reflexes. Joshua hits harder. A more stationary Fury is in more danger vs Joshua
I’m not sure at this point who wins now there both well past there best,Joshua has the better power but Fury is the better boxer. I’m not sure who Joshua will have in his corner for the fight but if Fury still has Sugar Hill in his corner then he needs somebody to have a word with him. Mental side of things has to go to Fury,Joshua can certainly let the occasion get to him and sometimes just can’t deal with it. Hearn coming out and publicly stating that a Wilder fight is too risky for Joshua will not have done his confidence any good either. We all know it’s a massive fight still and if it’s an exciting back and forth fight and it goes to a decision we will also probably get a rematch .
Physically probably big joshie. Mentally probably Fury. Fury was always going to fight defensively in this fight, maybe turn it up if he sensed gassing or damage. Now he's lost mobility and defence no doubt. So he'll be easier to hit and might have to exchange. Joshie was always going to press and try to land big shots, at least after trying to box for a few rounds for his ego, like how he thought he could outbox Usyk. Physically his style isn't really compromised for that. He would have slowed a bit though. Both have some brain damage probably, can't take shots as well. Joshie has the Dubious loss but Fury has two damaging Wilder fights and Usyk nearly KO'd him plus the circus fight. Fury is probably more compromised. Wouldn't surprise me if Fury lost this now. He would have likely won by TKO after the Wilder fights, he had all the momentum, but that's of course why Hearn-J scuttled it to rebuild for Dubious who they were confident of beating.
Physically, AJ by a mile. He’s lived the life unlike Fury and his style is better suited to aging. Mentally though? In-ring, Fury is as mentally tough as it gets. So I think the answer comes down to what’s going on in AJ’s head. His body and skillset is capable of winning this one, probably more than ever. But does he have the will/fortitude/attitude to pull it off? Don’t know.
In a physical sense it's Joshua obviously. But in a stage of career, confidence and exposure of weaknesses sense it's clearly in Fury's favor.
I think the timing favours AJ, as Fury is now less mobile, Joshuas gas tank is now reasonable, and i do not think Furys power of punch is enough to sow seeds of doubt in AJs mind.
I think Joshua is a finished fighter (the punishment he took from Dubois, two years ago now, was terrible) and that Fury will win clearly. With both of them in their prime I would still have said Fury, although I would have given Joshua a better chance than I do today, whose good footwork could have been a problem for Fury.
It depends on how much the horrific car crash has affected AJ physically and mentally. If by some miracle it hasn’t altered his ability to focus when he has a job to do, and he hasn’t been affected physically, the timing favours AJ both physically and mentally. He’s had fewer pro fights, and fewer fights in which he’s been down. He’s kept in better physical shape, lived healthier generally (both in terms of nutritional and intellectual consumption), been involved in fewer scandals, and been quieter outside of his profession. I think that’s important. Fury’s lifestyle has been disgraceful in the past considering he’s a pro athlete, and it shows how freakish his athletic potential actually is that he can go for so long and do what he does despite having lived that way and in peak form still looking like a warped bag of milk. Mentally, Fury is such a narcissist that I don’t think people can really get under his skin as such, but I genuinely don’t think he’s ever been up for the AJ fight, because he sees it as a dicey fight in which he could get hurt and embarrassed. Conversely, AJ has seemed to always have fancied it. They sparred well over a decade ago, so styles and levels will have changed, but I think if the spar went as Tyson made it sound, it has had a long term impact on his view of how that fight would go. If AJ goes in against Prenga, bashes him up early and looks clinical doing it, I’d be pretty confidently making him a favourite against Fury. I think he’d go after the win. Fury wouldn’t. If he beats AJ, he does so in a crap, negative, cautious showing. BUT - I think AJ is a bit scarred to reach a level anywhere near his best at this stage in his career, and will look underwhelming against Prenga. Making me edge Tyson.
